A system includes an inverter configured to output multiphase alternating current (AC) currents to an electric motor, the multiphase AC currents including a first phase current and a second phase current, the inverter including a set of switches for each phase current. The system also includes a switching controller operably connected to each set of switches, the switching controller configured to control a gate driver connected to a switch of the set of switches, the switching controller configured to determine a time difference between a first switching event of a first phase and a second switching event of a second phase during a switching cycle, and control a switching speed of the switch based on the time difference.

Control of switching speed in a multiphase inverter

A vehicle's electrified powertrain includes a battery pack linked to a traction power inverter module (TPIM) converting DC voltage from the battery pack into AC voltage. A rotary electric machine includes a stator energized by the TPIM's AC voltage, enclosing a rotor core capable of rotation. The rotor core contains slots holding conductive bars and permanent magnets, with conductive bars positioned closer to the rotor core's center. The conductive bars and permanent magnets are separated by gaps within each slot. An annular end ring assembly is present at one end of the rotor core, featuring terminal conductors connected to subsets of conductive bars and a secondary coil of a rotary transformer. When the stator is energized, the rotor shaft, connected to the rotor, rotates. The electric machine powers a transmission, which is coupled to the rotor shaft.

Hybrid excited rotary machine

A motor system includes a rechargeable energy storage system, an alternating current motor, and a power inverter. Multiple efficiency maps may be provided, each representing a specific combination of control parameters and associated settings. The maps relate the motor's operating space (torque and speed) to corresponding efficiency solutions. The combination of control parameters and settings that yields the highest motor system efficiency at an operating point may be determined from the multiple efficiency maps and used in controlling the motor.

The first set of AC phase outputs provide a current, each phase output of the first set of AC phase outputs corresponds to a phase output of the second set of AC phase outputs, and each phase output of the first set of AC phase outputs is offset from the corresponding phase output of the second set of phase outputs by 180 degrees. An electric motor includes a first and second set of antiparallel motor windings. The first set of motor windings is connected to the first set of AC phase outputs and the second set of motor windings are connected to the second set of AC phase outputs. The electric motor includes a mechanical rotation output.

A system includes an electronic device including a circuit having a semiconductor switch, and a controller configured to control a gate driver connected to the semiconductor switch via a protection circuit. The controller is configured to set a protection parameter including a voltage threshold representing a selected value of a voltage across the semiconductor switch, the protection parameter configured to cause the semiconductor switch to be deactivated in response to an overcurrent condition, the protection parameter selected based on a mathematical model of the semiconductor switch, the mathematical model representing a physical property of at least one of the electronic device and the semiconductor switch.

Aspects of the disclosure include a symmetric direct current (DC) link capacitor having a low parasitic equivalent series L-inductance (ESL). An exemplary capacitor can include one or more positive-dielectric-negative (PDN) stacks having a positive layer, a negative layer, and a dielectric layer between the positive layer and the negative layer. A first contact layer is electrically coupled to the positive layer on a sidewall of the one or more PDN stacks and a second contact layer is electrically coupled to the negative layer on the sidewall of the one or more PDN stacks. A positive terminal is electrically coupled to the first contact layer and a negative terminal is electrically coupled to the second contact layer.

A vehicle system includes DC/DC converters configured to receive electrical currents from high voltage battery modules and output regulating electrical currents to a low voltage battery. The vehicle system includes a control system coupled to the DC/DC converters, the high voltage battery modules, and the low voltage battery, where the control system is configured to control the DC/DC converters to recirculate one or more of the electrical currents back to one or more of the high voltage battery modules in order to balance states of charge in the high voltage battery modules.

Optimal control strategy for a distributed low voltage system with bidirectional direct current converters

A choke device for an electric machine system is provided. The choke device includes a common-mode choke including a magnetic core configured in cross-section as a geometric shape including a hollow center. The choke device further includes a plurality of electric transmission lines configured for transmitting electrical energy in alternating current, wherein the plurality of electric transmission lines is routed through the hollow center. The geometric shape includes a number of sides based upon a number of the electric transmission lines present and is configured for minimizing or reducing an overall flux length of the magnetic core.

An electric motor circuit includes a motor controller having a plurality of gate drivers and an inverter configured to receive direct current (DC) power from a source and output alternating current (AC) power to an electric motor. The inverter includes a plurality of transistor elements. Each transistor element includes multiple transistors arranged on a transistor board. Multiple temperature sensors are configured to monitor a plurality of temperatures on each transistor element. The motor controller is configured to alter a pulse width modulation (PWM) control of a first subset of transistors on a first transistor element in response to a first subset of temperature sensors detecting a temperature exceeding a threshold temperature and a second subset of temperature sensors not detecting a temperature exceeding the threshold.

A multi-level inverter control system includes a power storage system having a high voltage terminal, a low voltage terminal, and an intermediate voltage terminal. The memory stores instructions configured to cause the controller to operate the multi-level inverter in a three-level inverter mode, a full power two-level inverter mode, a first partial power two-level inverter mode and a second partial power two-level inverter mode.

A power control system for a battery system includes a resistor including a first terminal and a second terminal. A normally closed transistor includes a first terminal, a second terminal and a control terminal. The first terminal of the transistor is connected to a second terminal of the resistor and the second terminal of the transistor is connected to a second terminal of the battery system. A capacitor includes a first terminal connected to the first terminal of the resistor and a second terminal connected to the second terminal of the battery system. A power supply system for a vehicle is provided. The power supply system includes a high-voltage battery pack having a plurality of batteries, a primary isolated converter connected to the high-voltage battery pack, and a plurality of distributed isolated converters, each of the plurality of distributed isolated converters being connected to one of the plurality of batteries. Each of the distributed isolated converters includes a primary stage configured to receive power from one of the plurality of batteries and an isolated stage configured to provide power to a low-voltage bus. The bias signals configured to control the operation of each of the plurality of distributed isolated converters are powered by the connected one of the plurality of batteries and activated based on an enable signal provided by the primary isolated converter.

A vehicle, slew rate control circuit and method of operating an electric motor of a vehicle. The slew rate control circuit is between a gate driver of the vehicle and an inverter of the vehicle. The slew rate control circuit includes a first branch between the gate driver and the inverter, wherein the inverter provides an electrical signal output to an electric motor of the vehicle, and a second branch between the gate driver and the inverter in parallel with the first branch, wherein current flows through the first branch during a first time period and through the second branch during a second time period, wherein the flow of the current controls a slew rate of the electrical signal output by the inverter to the electric motor.
