A mask system includes a frame defining a breathing chamber, a cushion provided to the frame and adapted to form a seal with the patient's face, and a shroud provided to the frame and adapted to attach headgear. The shroud includes a retaining mechanism structured to connect the shroud to the frame. The retaining mechanism includes both a taper lock arrangement and a retaining clip arrangement.

Mask system

The technology relates to a vent for a respiratory therapy system. The vent comprises a vent body having formed therein a plurality of slots allowing a vent flow of exhaled gases to ambient. The slots have a length, a width and a height. In examples the width of each slot is significantly greater than the height and the slots are arranged such that the widths of the slots extend in mutually parallel directions. The vent body may also be configured so that the length of each slot is significantly greater than the height and/or the outlet area is greater than the inlet area. In examples the vent is provided with a cover and an actuator to move the cover between a first position in which the cover at least partially occludes flow through the vent and a second position in which the degree of occlusion is reduced.

Vents for patient interfaces

Systems and/or methods for assessing the sleep quality of a patient in a sleep session are provided. Data is collected from the patient and/or physician including, for example, sleep session data in the form of one or more physiological parameters of the patient indicative of the patient's sleep quality during the sleep session, a subjective evaluation of sleep quality, etc.; patient profile data; etc. A sleep quality index algorithm, which optionally may be an adaptive algorithm, is applied, taking into account some or all of the collected data. Sleep quality data may be presented to at least the patient, and it may be displayed in any suitable format (e.g., a format useful for the patient to be appraised on the progress of the treatment, a format useful for a sleep clinician to monitor progress and/or assess the effectiveness of differing treatment regimens, etc).

Methods and apparatus for assessing sleep quality

A patient interface includes a seal-forming structure, a shell, and an AAV. The shell and the seal-forming structure form at least a portion of a plenum chamber pressurizable to a therapeutic pressure. The shell includes a first port into the plenum chamber, the first port configured to allow air to flow between the plenum chamber and ambient. The shell includes a passageway including a second port into the plenum chamber, the passageway configured to communicate with a flow of air at positive pressure. The AAV is provided to the shell and configured to regulate flow through the first port and the second port to (1) provide a flow path for pressurized air when pressure in the plenum chamber is above a predetermined magnitude and (2) provide a breathable flow path when pressure in the plenum chamber is below the predetermined magnitude or not delivered.

A patient interface for delivering breathable gas to a patient includes a nasal prong assembly including a pair of nasal prongs structured to sealingly communicate with nasal passages of a patient's nose in use and headgear to maintain the nasal prong assembly in a desired position on the patient's face. The headgear includes side straps and rigidizers provided to respective side straps. Each rigidizer includes a first end portion that provides a connector structured to engage a respective end of the nasal prong assembly and an inwardly curved protrusion in the form of a cheek support that curves inwardly of the connector. The cheek support is adapted to follow the contour of the patient's cheek and guide a respective end portion of the side strap into engagement with the patient's cheek to provide a stable cheek support.

Patient interface

A flow generator for delivering breathable gas to a patient includes a processor coupled with operation sensors and a user interface. The processor is programmed to generate at least one of time-based or event-based messages relating to at least one of flow generator operation, flow generator service, flow generator use, patient health, peripheral devices and services, patient treatment, and reminders. Time-based messages are generated at predetermined time intervals based on either time of use or elapsed time. The event-based messages are generated based on signals from the operation sensors. The user interface is configured to deliver the messages to at least one of a display, a flow generator service provider, the patient and a physician. By this system, operation of the flow generator is facilitated and enhanced.

A vent adaptor for a for a respiratory pressure therapy (RPT) system, the vent adaptor comprising: a vent assembly comprising: a vent housing defining a central orifice for the flow of pressurized gas to pass through the vent assembly from the delivery conduit to the patient interface, the vent housing having an annular surface around the central orifice, and the annular surface having a plurality of holes to discharge pressurized gas to atmosphere; and a membrane positioned adjacent to the annular surface; a heat and moisture exchanger (HME); and a diffusing member.

Vent adaptor for a respiratory therapy system

A gas-washout vent includes a housing with a first wall with one or more passages through the wall configured to provide fluid communication with a portion of the patient interface system exposed to a therapy pressure. The passages include respective first openings on a first surface of the first wall. The housing at least partially defines a second opening in communication with ambient atmosphere. A diffusing material is located at least partially within the housing to be adjacent the first surface. A surface of the diffusing material facing the first surface is spaced away from the first surface by a gap that extends to provide a fluid communication between all of the first openings and between all of the first openings and the second opening. The housing is configured so that air is prevented from flowing out of the housing at all areas directly opposite each of the first openings.

Gas washout vent for patient interface

A control system provides automated control of gas washout of a patient interface, such as a mask or nasal prongs. A gas washout vent assembly of the system may include a variable exhaust area such as one defined by overlapping apertures of the assembly or a conduit having a variable gas passage channel. The vent assembly may be formed by nested structures, such as conic or cylindrical members, each having an opening of the overlapping apertures. The vent assembly may be attached substantially near or included with the patient interface. An actuator of the assembly, such as a solenoid or voice coil, manipulates an aperture of the vent assembly. The actuator may be configured for control by a controller to change the exhaust area of the vent assembly based on various methodologies including, for example, sleep detection, disordered breathing event detection, rebreathing volume calculation and/or leak detection.

A gas washout vent, and a patient interface with the gas washout vent, configured to allow patient-exhaled COto flow to an exterior of the plenum chamber to minimise rebreathing of exhaled COby the patient, the gas washout vent including at least one outlet orifice; a diffusing member at least partly covering the outlet orifice; and a blocking member having an air-impermeable material, the blocking member preventing gas exiting from the outlet orifice from flowing straight through the diffusing member.

A vent assembly for a respiratory pressure therapy (RPT) system. The vent assembly may include a vent housing having a first orifice configured to receive the flow of pressurized gas from the RPT device and the vent housing having a plurality of holes to discharge pressurized gas to atmosphere; a vent housing connector having a second orifice configured to direct the flow of pressurized gas to the patient interface; and a heat and moisture exchanger (HME) comprising an HME housing and an HME material within the HME housing, wherein the vent housing and the vent housing connector are configured to be connected to, at least in part, form a cavity, and wherein the HME is positioned in the cavity when the vent assembly is assembled.

A vent system for use during respiratory therapy with a flow of pressurized gas may provide a continuous vent flow of gas. The vent system may include a vent housing having an outer wall; an inner wall, the inner wall defining an inlet for the flow of gas; and a base positioned between the outer wall and the inner wall, the base having at least one first orifice and at least one second orifice. The vent system may include a membrane, the membrane being shaped and dimensioned such that the membrane does not cover the at least one first orifice to allow the vent flow through the at least one first orifice, and the membrane being shaped and dimensioned such that in a first position the membrane is positioned over the at least one second orifice to allow the vent flow through the at least one second orifice.

A CPAP system for respiratory therapy includes an RPT device configured to supply a flow of gas at a therapeutic pressure, a patient interface, an air delivery conduit configured to pass the flow of gas from the RPT device to the patient interface, and a vent assembly configured to provide a vent flow of gas to discharge gas exhaled by the patient from a pressurized volume to ambient. The vent assembly includes a base including at least one first orifice to allow gas to be discharged along a primary vent flow path and at least one second orifice to allow gas to be discharged along a secondary vent flow path, a diffusing member provided to the base, and a membrane provided to the base. The membrane is configured to apportion the vent flow of gas along the primary vent flow path and the secondary vent flow path throughout respiratory therapy.
