Personal care compositions that include a stable O/W emulsion, a stable retinoid, an oil, a fatty alcohol, and an emulsifier and methods of using such compositions to regulate a condition of mammalian keratinous tissue. By combining the oil and retinoid at a particular ratio in the personal care composition, the stability of the retinoid can be improved.

Stable personal care compositions containing a retinoid

A skin care composition is provided that has an oil phase mixture and a water phase. The oil phase mixture has from about 5% to about 30% by weight of the composition, of a wax material and optionally from about 1% to about 20% by weight of the composition, of an oil that is liquid at room temperature. The oil phase mixture has a melting point of about 25&#xb0; C. to about 50&#xb0; C. The water phase has from about 0.1% to about 5%, by weight of the composition, of a superabsorbent polymer and from about 20% to about 85% by weight of the composition of water. The composition also has from about 6% to about 30%, by weight of the composition, of particulate material selected from the group consisting of starch particles, silicone elastomer particles and combinations thereof.

Superabsorbent polymers and starch powders for use in skin care compositions

A thickened aqueous composition containing about 0.01% to about 10%, by weight, of an superabsorbent polymer, about 0.1% to about 20%, of a silicone elastomer; about 0.1% to about 20%, by weight, of a fatty alcohol; and from about 20% to about 98% of water.

Skin care composition

A skin care composition having from about 0.01% to about 5%, by weight, of an superabsorbent polymer which is a sodium polyacrylate, sodium polacrylate starch, sodium acrylates crosspolymer-2 or mixtures of these and a portion of the polymer comprises a grafted starch material. The superabsorbent polymer is particulate where the particles have an average particle size in the range of from about 5&#x3bc;-30&#x3bc;, and the individual particles in their dry or un-swollen condition are substantially non-spherical, flat, platelet, or elongated in shape. The particles have an absorption capacity of at least about 1000 times their initial dry or un-swollen volume. Additionally, the skin care composition contains from about 0.01-10% of a dry powder that is either starch or silicone based and wherein the dry powder is coated with a silicone based material. Further there is provided a UV active.

Superabsorbent polymers and sunscreen actives for use in skin care compositions
