A voltage nonlinear resistor according to the present invention includes a sintered body consisting essentially of zinc oxide and containing bismuth, antimony, and boron as accessory components. The accessory components are bismuth oxide of 1.5 to 2.5 mol %, antimony oxide of 1 to 2 mol %, and boron oxide of 0.3 mol % or less in terms of oxides.

A semiconductor chip includes a semiconductor substrate made of SiC, a front surface electrode formed in a principal surface of the semiconductor substrate, and a rear surface electrode (drain electrode) formed in a rear surface of the semiconductor substrate. The front surface electrode is bonded to a wire, and includes an Al alloy film containing a high melting-point metal. The Al alloy film contains a columnar Al crystal which extends along a thickness direction of the Al alloy film, and an intermetallic compound is precipitated therein.

An objective of the invention is to provide a method and system for separating a particular rare earth element from a rare earth magnet at a high separation ratio and by a simple process. There is provided a rare earth separation method for separating a first and a second groups of rare earth elements contained in a magnet, the method including: a starting powder preparation step from the magnet; a magnet component oxidation heat treatment step; a rare earth oxide separation step from the magnet components oxide powder; a powder size optimization step; a chlorinating agent mixing step; a chlorination/oxychlorination heat treatment step of forming a 'first group rare earth chlorides'/'second group rare earth oxychlorides' mixture; a selective dissolution step of selectively dissolving the first group rare earth chlorides in the solvent and leaving the second group rare earth oxychlorides undissolved in solid phase form; and a solid-liquid separation step.

Method and system for separating rare earth elements

A method for separating and recovering a plurality of rare-earth elements, the method including a step of introducing, into a liquid, a mixture containing a rare-earth oxychloride and a rare-earth chloride, the rare-earth oxychloride constituted from a rare-earth element different from a rare-earth element constituting the rare-earth chloride, thereby obtaining an insoluble matter containing the rare-earth oxychloride and a liquid in which the rare-earth chloride is dissolved, a step of recovering the rare-earth oxychloride from the insoluble matter, and a step of recovering the rare-earth chloride from the liquid in which the rare-earth chloride is dissolved.

Method for separating and recovering rare-earth elements

It is an object of the present invention to provide a spacer which has an adequate Young's modulus for a spacer used in an image display panel and allows free adjustment of an electric resistance value, and an image display panel using the spacer. The spacer SPC holds a gap between a back panel PNLincluding a signal line CL, a scanning line GL, and an electronic source ELS provided for the main surface of a back substrate SUB, and a front panel PNLincluding a fluorescent material PH, a black matrix BM, and an anode AD provided for the main surface of a front substrate SUB. The spacer comprises phosphate glass including the same transition metal element with different valences. For electrical conduction, the included same transition metal element with different valences allows the use of hopping conduction between transition metal atoms with different valences to perform adjustment of electric resistance relatively easily. The transition metal element is at least one of vanadium (V), tungsten (W), molybdenum (Mo), niobium (Nb), and iron (Fe).

Spacer and image display panel using the same

The objects of the present invention are to provide a high-accuracy EGR sensor, and EGR system which adopts the above sensor to measure EGR rate. The gas flow meter comprises a sensor section for measuring fluid flow rate and controller for controlling signals transmitted into and out of the sensor section, and is controlled at a working temperature of 350 to 700&#xb0; C., wherein a protective coat formed on the sensor section has resistance to temperature at which deposition of a PM component in exhaust gases can be prevented.

Reflector, projective display and projector

A flat panel display device capable of reducing charging of phosphors and disposing spacers easily and accurately. The flat panel display device has a rear substrate including an insulating substrate provided with many cold cathode elements for emitting electrons, a display substrate including a light-transmissive substrate disposed to face the rear substrate, and phosphors disposed on the light-transmissive substrate for generating light when excited by electron beams from the cold cathode elements, and a peripheral frame member. Provided on the light-transmissive substrate is a metal sheet perforated with plural fine holes arranged in a matrix configuration and having the phosphors disposed therewithin to form a light-emissive region.

Flat panel display device

The surface of a member formed of at least one kind of ceramics, metals and C/C composites, is covered with an outermost surface oxide covering layer having a stability against the environment in the atmospheric air at 1500.degree. C.; and a self-recoverable layer as an intermediate layer formed between the outermost surface oxide covering layer and the surface of the member. The self-recoverable layer has an oxidizing rate greater than that of the outermost surface covering layer for recovering cracks generated on the outermost surface covering layer, and a compound produced by the self-recoverable layer has the same phase as in the outermost surface covering layer. To achieve the optimum self-recovering function at high temperatures, the outermost surface oxide covering layer may be made of a stable oxide having a vapor pressure of 1.times.10.sup.-4 /m.sup.2 or less in the atmospheric air at 1500.degree. C., and the oxidized product material from the self-recoverable layer contains an oxide having the same composition as that of the outermost surface oxide covering layer.

Self-recoverable covering material and method for fabricating the same

A method of estimating non-destructively the life expectancy of ceramic members, at least a surface layer of which is made of ceramics, is disclosed. The method comprises measuring a variation in at least one of physical characteristics of said ceramic members including color, grain size, electroconductivity and Young's modulus and estimating the life expectancy of the ceramic members on the basis of the predetermined relationship between the life of said ceramics and the physical characteristics. The method is excellent in estimation of the life expectancy of ceramic members of gas turbines or nuclear fusion reactor since the life expectancy of the members to be inspected can easily be estimated in a short time without fracturing the members.

Method of non-destructively estimating life of ceramic member

To provide diagnosis of service life and maintenance requirements, a sintered ceramic body which in use is subjected to stress and undergoes change with time as a result of the stress is provided with an electrically conductive element in contact with the sintered ceramic material The element has a measurable electrical resistance which increases in dependence on the change of the ceramic body. This permits information to be obtained about said change of said body. Measuring means for the electrical resistance is connected to the conductive element. The electrically conductive element as seen in cross-section, may comprise a bundle of elongate members such as fibers or whiskers.
