A ferrule includes: a tip surface; an opening portion provided on a side opposite to the tip surface in a first direction intersecting the tip surface; a plurality of fiber grooves extending along the first direction and arranged along a second direction intersecting the first direction between the tip surface and the opening portion, the plurality of fiber grooves being capable of respectively supporting a plurality of optical fibers; and a plurality of lenses respectively disposed on extension lines of the plurality of fiber grooves. The fiber groove has a first fiber groove portion for positioning the optical fiber with respect to the lens and a second fiber groove portion for introducing the optical fiber into the first fiber groove portion. The first fiber groove portion is disposed closer to the lens than the second fiber groove portion in the first direction.

Ferrule and optical connector

An optical connection structure including first optical fibers, second optical fibers, a first optical connector, and a second optical connector is disclosed. The first optical connector is configured such that each of first distal end portions of the first optical fibers protrudes from a first front end surface to the outside when the first optical connector and the second optical connector are connected to each other. Each of the first distal end portions is inserted into a corresponding second fiber hole of the second optical connector. The second optical connector is configured such that each of second distal end portions of the second optical fibers is moved rearward inside second fiber holes due to each of the first distal end portions respectively inserted into the second fiber holes. The first optical fibers and the second optical fibers are optically coupled to each other inside the second fiber holes.

Optical connection structure, optical connector, and optical connecting method

An optical connector includes a ferrule accommodating an optical fiber, and a housing covering an outer circumference of the ferrule. An outer circumferential surface of the ferrule has a recessed part or a projecting part for positioning extending in an optical axis direction of the optical fiber. The housing has a slit extending in the optical axis direction at a position corresponding to the recessed part or the projecting part of the ferrule.

An optical fiber cleaver includes: a body unit on which an optical fiber extending in a first direction is loaded; a lid unit connected to the body unit to be rotatable and openable; a pair of retainers arranged to be separate from each other in the first direction and retain the optical fiber between the pair of retainers when the lid unit is closed with respect to the body unit; a blade member that comes into contact with the optical fiber from one direction side of a second direction intersecting the first direction between the pair of retainers and hurt the optical fiber; and a movement unit that brings the blade member into contact with the optical fiber from the one direction side of the second direction and move the blade member to one direction side of a third direction intersecting the first direction and the second direction.

Optical fiber cleaver and optical fiber cleaving method

An elastic member according to an embodiment is an elastic member that biases a ferrule retaining a plurality of optical fibers in a connecting direction. The elastic member is stored in an inner housing that accommodates the ferrule, the elastic member has a space in its inside into which a 16-fiber tape fiber is inserted, and the elastic member is in a noncircular shape in a cross section intersecting with the connecting direction. The elastic member includes a pair of first portions having an outer surface opposite to a pair of inner surfaces in an arc shape of the housing, the inner surfaces being opposite to each other along a first direction intersecting with the connecting direction and a pair of second portions opposite to the tape fiber along a second direction intersecting with both of the connecting direction and the first direction.

An optical connector ferrule according to an embodiment includes an MT ferrule, and a spacer mounted on an optical end surface of the MT ferrule and having a guide hole into which a guide pin is inserted. The spacer has a contact surface that contacting the counterpart connector and a recess surrounded by the contact surface. The spacer includes a lens part exposed on a bottom surface of the recess and optically coupled to the optical end surface of the MT ferrule and a base part that retains the lens part by surrounding the lens part. The material of the lens part and the material of the base part are different from each other, and the difference between the linear expansion coefficient of the base part and the linear expansion coefficient of the MT ferrule is 0.5&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. or less.

An optical connector is disclosed. The optical connector includes a rear housing, an inner housing, and an outer housing. The inner housing includes a retaining hole to accommodate a ferrule. The outer housing is disposed on an outer periphery of the inner housing to cover a front portion of the inner housing. The outer housing rotates about the central axis with respect to the inner housing by a rotation guiding mechanism cooperating with an adapter for connecting the optical connector to another optical connector. The outer housing includes a front wall covering the distal end of the inner housing. The front wall includes at least one opening region. The opening region corresponds to a fiber exposed surface of the ferrule when the outer housing is rotated with respect to the inner housing from an initial position to a connected position by the rotation guiding mechanism.

Optical connector

An optical connector is disclosed. The optical connector includes a rear housing, an inner housing, an arm and an outer housing. The inner housing includes at least one retaining hole to house a ferrule. The rear housing moves linearly and rotates with respect to the inner housing. The arm moves linearly together with the rear housing with respect to the inner housing. The outer housing disposed on an outer periphery of the inner housing covers a front portion of the inner housing. The outer housing rotates with respect to the inner housing by a rotation guiding mechanism cooperating with the arm. The outer housing includes a forward wall covering the distal end of the inner housing. An opening area of the forward wall can be aligned with the retaining hole of the ferrule when the outer housing is rotated from an initial position to a connected position.

A coating removal tool includes a base part and a cover part, to remove a coating of an optical fiber by overlapping the cover part and the base part. The base part and the cover part are made of resin, and include at least a pair of coating removal blades including a base front blade portion provided on the base part and a cover front blade portion provided on the cover part. The base part includes a V-groove which sandwiches the optical fiber in either one or both of a front and rear of the optical fiber in the longitudinal direction and the cover part includes a V-groove which sandwiches the optical fiber and is provided on a side where the V-groove exists in the front and rear of the longitudinal direction in a state where the cover part and the base part are overlapped.

Coating removal tool

An optical connector comprises: an inner housing including an engagement recess for engaging an optical adaptor on its surface; a boot connected to a rear side of the inner housing; a first outer housing covering the engagement recess; and a second outer housing covering a part of the first outer housing and provided freely movably in a front-rear direction relative to the first outer housing. When the second outer housing moves frontward, the engagement recess is exposed by the second outer housing and the inner housing moving relative to the first outer housing, and when the second outer housing moves rearward, the engagement recess is exposed by the second outer housing and the first outer housing moving relative to the inner housing.

An opening area of the forward wall can be aligned with the retaining hole or a fiber exposure face of the ferrule when the outer housing is rotated with respect to the inner housing from an initial position to a connected position.

A receptacle connector comprises a receptacle ferrule, and a receptacle housing including a cavity housing the receptacle ferrule and a cavity housing a plug connector. The receptacle ferrule includes an optical coupling surface (front surface). An opening area of the cavity on a cross section vertical to an inserting direction of the plug connector to the receptacle housing is smaller than an opening area of the cavity on the cross section vertical to the inserting direction. In a second state after being optically coupled, the optical coupling surface (front surface) is positioned inside the cavity.
