Optical resonator, optical modulator, optical frequency comb generator, optical oscillator and method of preparing optical oscillator

An optical detection device image is disclosed that allows fast measurements using near-field light at high resolution and high efficiency but without necessity of position alignment of an optical fiber probe. The optical detection device includes an optical fiber probe having a core for propagating light with an optical probe being formed at a front end of the core; a movement control unit to move the optical fiber probe to approach or depart from a sample; and a detection unit to detect light from the sample surface, wherein on the front end surface of the core of the optical probe, there are a first exit section on a peripheral side for emitting propagating light and a second exit section for seeping out the near-field light, the first exit section and the second exit section are formed in a concentric manner, and the tilt angle of the first exit section is different from the tilt angle of the second exit section.

Photo-detection device and method

A resonance system () is formed by a light incident side reflection mirror and a light exiting side reflecting mirror, arranged parallel to each other. The light incident on an incident side reflective mirror () is propagated in the outward path direction or in the backward path direction so that the light is set in a resonant state. The light in the resonant state in the resonance system () is phase-modulated, responsive to a modulating signal supplied from an oscillating device () by a light modulation device () arranged between the light incident side reflective mirror () and the light exiting side reflective mirror (). The oscillating device oscillates the modulating signal of a frequency f. A plural number of sidebands, centered about the frequency of the incident light, are generated with an interval between neighboring sidebands equal to the frequency of the modulating signal, such as to modulate the phase of the light in the outward path direction and the phase of the light in the backward path direction.

An optical frequency comb generator includes an oscillator () for oscillating modulating signals of a preset frequency, and an optical resonator () formed by an incident side reflecting mirror () and an outgoing side reflecting mirror (), arranged parallel to each other. The optical resonator causes resonation in light incident via the incident side reflecting mirror (). The optical frequency comb generator also includes an optical phase modulation unit () arranged between the incident side reflecting mirror () and the outgoing side reflecting mirror () for phase modulating the light, resonated by the optical resonator (), by the modulating signals supplied from the oscillator (), and for generating a plurality of sidebands centered about the frequency of the incident light at a frequency interval of the modulating signal. The outgoing side reflecting mirror () sets the transmittance from one frequency to another responsive to the light intensity of the generated sidebands.

Measurement of an internal structure of a sample is performed using interference of light within a short time. Through a first optical frequency comb generator using a first signal having a frequency f and generating reference light having a sideband every interval of the frequency f and a second optical frequency comb generator using a second signal having a frequency f and generating object light having a sideband every interval of the frequency f , and sweeping of emission timing between the reference light and the object light, by changing a phase difference or frequency difference between the first signal and second signal, and detecting a change in light intensity of the interference light due to the interference, operation of detecting the interference position is made at a high speed.
