A substrate is coated with a transparent coating film using a coating liquid for forming a transparent coating film including metal oxide particles and a matrix formation component. The metal oxide particles each include a metal oxide particle containing titanium oxide coated with silicon dioxide-stannic oxide complex oxide, including a titanium oxide-containing core particle; and a coating layer with which the titanium oxide-containing core particle is coated and that is made of silicon dioxide-stannic oxide complex oxide colloidal particles having a mass ratio of silicon dioxide/stannic oxide of 0.1 to 5.0, where one or more intermediate thin film layers that are made of any one of an oxide; a complex oxide of at least one element selected from Si, Al, Sn, Zr, Zn, Sb, Nb, Ta, and W; and a mixture of the oxide and the complex oxide are interposed between the core particle and the coating layer.

There are provided a coating composition being possible to form a cured film which has excellent transparency and weather resistance, and especially hardness. There is provided a stable sol of zirconium oxide-tin oxide composite colloidal particles and a method of producing the same, a hard coat material applied for a surface of a plastic lens, and an optical member. The present invention relates to a sol comprising zirconium oxide-tin oxide composite colloidal particles (A), wherein a molar ratio of oxide in the zirconium oxide-tin oxide composite colloidal particles (A) is 0.02-0.4 as SnO/ZrO, and the zirconium oxide-tin oxide composite colloidal particles (A) have a structure in which zirconium oxide colloidal particles and tin oxide colloidal particles are bonded together, and a primary particle diameter of 2-100 nm; and also relays to a coating composition comprising a silicon-containing substance (S) of an organic silicon compound or a hydrolysate thereof, and a sol comprising zirconium oxide-tin oxide composite colloidal particles (A), and an optical member having a cured coating formed from the coating composition.

There is provided a stable sol comprising modified stannic oxide-zirconium oxide complex colloidal particles, wherein the particles are formed by coating as nuclei stannic oxide-zirconium oxide complex colloidal particles in which stannic oxide colloidal particles obtained by a reaction of metal tin, an organic acid and hydrogen peroxide is bonded to zirconium oxide colloidal particles with tungsten oxide-stannic oxide-silicon dioxide complex colloidal particles. The sol has a high refractive index and is improved in water resistance, moisture resistance and weather resistance, and can be used by mixing with a hard coating paint as a component for improving properties of a hard coating film applied on a plastic lens surface.

Modified stannic oxide-zirconium oxide complex sol and method for preparing same

The present invention provides a process for producing a diantimony pentoxide sol, characterized in that a diantimony pentoxide sol having a particle size of 5 to 30 nm is used as a nuclear sol and the sol is grown to an arbitrary particle size, preferably a particle size of 40 to 300 nm. The process comprises adding a hydrogen peroxide solution and diantimony trioxide into a sol comprising diantimony pentoxide particles as a raw material, and coating the diantimony pentoxide particles with a resulting antimony compound, preferably diantimony pentoxide. In the process, the coating is preferably carried out in such a manner that a particle size of particles in a sol as a raw material increases by a factor of 1.3 to 60.
