A starter control device includes an auxiliary switch for controlling an operation of a starter main switch, the auxiliary switch having a cap made from an insulating member. The starter control device also includes a control circuit part disposed on the cap, a terminal disposed on the cap, and a connection metal attachment for connecting the control circuit part and the terminal.

There is provided a starter control apparatus including a control circuit board which can reduce the number of parts and prevents erroneous fitting. An earth pattern is formed in the vicinity of an attachment hole of the control circuit board and only on a one surface, positions of attachment holes of the control circuit board provided in a case and a cap are made different from each other between a case where an earth system is body earth and a case where it is earth float, and the respective positions are made symmetrical positions with respect to the attachment position center line of the control circuit board, so that fitting is enabled only when the control circuit board is put face-up in the case of the body earth type and only when it is put face-down in the case of the earth float type.

To secure sufficient attractive force against a plunger, an overrunning clutch is arranged so that one end of a thrust spline is positioned so as to maintain a prescribed interval from the end of the plunger in the condition where the plunger is unexcited by an exciting coil and the outside periphery of the output shaft corresponding to the prescribed interval is covered by a cylinder body formed of a non-magnetic material or less permeable material.

To prevent damage or breakage of a pinion return coil spring employed in a starter, it is held between a first stopper and a second stopper which are coaxially arranged relative to an output shaft. Each stopper is provided with a cylindrical portion for restricting an inner diameter of the pinion return coil spring and controlling the movement of the pinion.

A magnetic switch includes a switch case,a molded cap,fastened to the switch case by crimped portions, two fixed terminals,having fixed contact shafts and fixed contacts, and a movable contact,wherein the crimped portions are disposed between the fixed terminals and coil terminal conductors in the vicinity of an open end portion of the molded cap to form four crimped portions,engaging the molded cap by crimping at positions radially further inwards than the inside diameter of the switch case. The outside diameter of the molded cap may be equal to or greater than the outside diameter of the switch case. The cross-sectional shape of the fixed contacts is an octagon and two sides thereof are approximately parallel to the outer circumferential surface of the molded cap.

A starter protector for preventing excessive generation of heat by a starter and for preventing reactivation of the starter while the engine is running, etc., comprises an auxiliary switch for opening and closing a starter main switch, a mounting bracket having a main body portion extending circumferentially around the outer circumferential surface of a housing of the auxiliary switch and secured thereto and a pair of leg portions extending substantially parallel to each other from the main body portion before turning outwards, and a protector circuit disposed in the space formed by the leg portions for opening the auxiliary switch under predetermined conditions. The protector circuit may comprise a case which is guided and positioned by the leg portions of the mounting bracket and the case may comprise a flange capable of being secured to the starter together with the leg portions of the mounting bracket.

A starter comprising: a motor 24, a clutch 21, which is connected to the motor 24; a pinion gear 22, which is connected to the clutch 21 and engages and disengages with the ring gear of the engine; an electromagnetic switch 2, which switches on and off an electric current for the motor 24; a reciprocating shift lever 4, which is linked to the electromagnetic switch 2; and lever springs 105, which press the shift lever 4 so that the pinion gear 22 is elastically pushed against and engaged with the ring gear; wherein the lever springs 105 are arranged symmetrically with respect to a plane 25 which includes the central axis of the motor 24 and the central axis of the electromagnetic switch 2, the lever springs 105 are attached to cylindrical portions 106b which are a plurality of protrusions on the plate 106, and the lever springs 105 and the shift lever 4 come into contact through a plate 106.

A starter for an engine equipped with a motor generator achieves lower cost and reduced sizes and capacities of circuit elements by reducing the assist load on the motor generator: it is provided with a motor generator (2) and a starting motor (10) connected to an engine (1); a startup state determining circuit (20) which determines the startup state from operating condition and selectively issues ON signals M1 and M2 to the motor generator and the starting motor; a key switch (6) which generates a start signal (Qe) at the time of starting the engine; and a temperature sensor 12 which generates a temperature signal (Te) corresponding to the temperature of the engine. The startup state determining circuit actuates only the motor generator as a motor in a startup state wherein the temperature signal indicates not less than a predetermined temperature corresponding to the warm-up state of the engine, while it actuates both the starting motor and the motor generator in a startup state wherein the temperature signal indicates a temperature below the predetermined temperature. And the startup state determining circuit actuates the starting motor first, then actuates the motor generator after a delay time corresponding to a rush current period of the starting motor has elapsed in the second startup state.

A starter protection device which substantially operates with only a signal from a key switch, does not require wiring from an alternator or the like, and can be standardized and reduced in size can be obtained. The starter protection device for opening a starter auxiliary switch (5) under a certain condition to protect a starter (2) for starting an engine, by making the starter (2) inoperable. The starter protection device comprises a switch circuit (716) closed by turning on a key switch (6) for closing the starter auxiliary switch (5), a timer circuit (715) that starts operating at the same time the key switch (6) is turned on, and a timer circuit (710) that starts operating at the same time the key switch (6) is released, wherein the opening and closing of the switch circuit (716) is controlled based on outputs of the first and second timer circuits.

Starter protection device

A moisture drain bush for use in a moisture drain hole in an engine starter motor housing wall comprises a stem having an inner and an outer end and an axial length equal to a housing wall thickness and having an axial groove extending between the inner and the outer ends of the stem. An inner flange has a flat inner surface radially extending from the inner end of the stem and larger than the drain hole is provided. The inner flange also has an inner radial groove connected at its inner end to the inner end of the axial groove in the stem and radially extending therefrom to open at the outer periphery of the inner flange. An outer flange having a flat inner surface radially extends from the outer end of the stem and larger than the drain hole is provided. The outer flange has an outer radial groove extending across the outer flange to open at the outer periphery of the outer flange at substantially diametrically opposite positions, the outer radial groove being connected to the outer end of the axial groove. Thus, when the drain bush is inserted within the drain hole in the motor housing, the axial groove and the inner and the outer radial grooves as well as the drain hole together define a continuous but bent moisture drain path extending through the housing wall and a substantially straight path substantially along the housing wall.
