An electrochemical device electrode includes a conductive polymer as an active material. The conductive polymer has a grain shape, and an intensity distribution pattern obtained by X-ray diffraction measurement with respect to the conductive polymer has a first peak in which a diffraction angle 2θ ranges from 18° to 21°, inclusive, and a second peak in which a diffraction angle 2θ ranges from 24° to 26°, inclusive.

Electrochemical device electrode and electrochemical device

An electrochemical device includes a pair of electrodes and an electrolytic solution. At least one of the pair of electrodes includes an electrode current collector and an electrode material layer supported by the electrode current collector. The electrode material layer includes at least a conductive polymer. A log differential pore volume distribution of the electrode material layer has at least one peak in a range of a pore diameter of more than or equal to 50 nm.

Electrochemical device

An electrochemical device of the present invention includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. The positive electrode includes a positive current collector containing aluminum, a positive electrode material layer containing a conductive polymer, and an aluminum oxide layer disposed on a surface of the positive current collector. The aluminum oxide layer contains fluorine.

Electrochemical device and method for manufacturing electrochemical device

A membrane electrode assembly includes an electrolyte membrane, and a pair of electrode layers which sandwich the electrolyte membrane. The pair of electrode layers include a pair of catalyst layers which sandwich the electrolyte membrane, and a pair of gas diffusion layers disposed on the pair of catalyst layers on opposite sides to the electrolyte membrane. At least one catalyst layer contains a fibrous electric conductor, catalyst particles, a particulate electric conductor, and a proton-conductive resin. The at least one catalyst layer has a first region at a distance of 200 nm or less from the fibrous electric conductor, and a second region at a distance of more than 200 nm from the fibrous electric conductor. Pores are present in the first and second regions. A mode diameter M1 of the pores in the first region and a mode diameter M2 of the pores in the second region satisfy M1&#x3c;M2.

Membrane electrode assembly and fuel cell

A membrane electrode assembly includes an electrolyte membrane, and a pair of electrodes sandwiching the electrolyte membrane. The pair of electrodes each include a catalyst layer, and a gas diffusion layer disposed on the catalyst layer on an opposite side to the electrolyte membrane. At least one of the catalyst layers contains first catalyst particles, and second catalyst particles. The first catalyst particles are either platinum particles or platinum alloy particles, or both. The second catalyst particles are core-shell particles having a core part and a shell part, the core part formed of at least one selected from transition metals other than platinum, the shell part covering the core part and formed of at least one of platinum and a platinum alloy. In the catalyst layer, the second catalyst particles are present in a smaller percentage in an electrolyte membrane side than they are in a gas diffusion layer side.

Membrane electrode assembly and fuel cell comprising core-shell catalyst

Provided is a fuel cell catalyst layer including: a fibrous carbon material; catalyst particles; a particulate carbon material; and a proton-conductive resin, wherein a region A including at least the fibrous carbon material in a state of an agglomerated body and a region B including at least the catalyst particles, the particulate carbon material, and the proton-conductive resin are formed, the region A being disposed in an island form in the region B.

A capacitor electrode includes a conductive base member and an electrode part electrically connected to the base member. The electrode part contains carbon particles of a first carbon material capable of adsorbing and desorbing ions. The electrode part further contains voids including first voids with diameters of not less than 0.2 &#x3bc;m and not more than 1.0 &#x3bc;m, and second voids with diameters of not less than 0.05 &#x3bc;m and less than 0.2 &#x3bc;m. The value of (V&#xd7;V)/(V&#xd7;M) is greater than 0.022, where Vis the sum of the volumes of the first voids, Vis the sum of the volumes of the second voids, and M is the volume of the electrode part per unit weight of the electrode part.

Electrode for capacitors and capacitor using same

In an electric storage device, a terminal plate includes an element-connecting part electrically connected to a first electrode at a first end of an electric storage element, and an external terminal connected to this element-connecting part. A sealing member is on the element-connecting part, and includes a hole where the external terminal is inserted. The sealing member and the external terminal seal an opening of an outer jacket. The external terminal includes a tapered part on its outer periphery at a tip, and is partially exposed from the sealing member. The tapered part includes a first end and a second end farther away from the element-connecting part than the first end. An edge of a side wall at the opening of the outer jacket is between the first and second ends of the tapered part in a first direction extending from the bottom to the opening of the outer jacket.

Electric storage device and method of manufacture thereof

A capacitor includes a capacitor element, a bottomed, cylindrical, metallic case, a metallic terminal plate, and a sealing rubber. A flange is provided along the outer circumference of the terminal plate. The flange is brought into contact with the bottom face of the sealing rubber for positioning. The case is wrung from the outside thereof so as to compress the sealing rubber. The sealing rubber has at least one of a ring-shaped top projection wall projecting between the metallic case and the terminal plate on the top face thereof, and a ring-shaped bottom projection wall projecting between the metallic case and the flange on the bottom face thereof.

Cylindrical capacitor employing electrolyte solution

A pressure regulating valve is provided on a terminal plate of a capacitor. This pressure regulating valve includes a gas permeable sheet, a valve body made of silicone rubber, a packing, and a cap. The gas permeable sheet that prevents permeation of electrolyte is provided so as to close a hole created in the terminal plate. The packing is interposed between the valve body and the gas permeable sheet, and is made of an elastic material with moisture permeation resistance higher than that of silicone rubber. The cap is fixed onto the terminal plate and covers the valve body and the packing such that the valve body and the packing are retained in a compressed state with respect to the terminal plate. The valve body and the packing are provided away from the gas permeable sheet.

Capacitor

An electric double layer capacitor includes a case, an electrolyte solution accommodated in the case, and an electrode foil immersed in the electrolyte solution. The electrode foil includes a collector and an electrode layer covering the collector. The collector has a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface. The collector has apertures provided therein. The apertures communicate with the first surface and the second surface of the collector. The collector includes a projection provided at an edge of at least one aperture out of the apertures. The projection projects from the first surface of the collector and penetrates the electrode layer. The electric double layer capacitor provides a large contact area and a large joining strength between the collector and the electrode layer, and allows the collector to have a small thickness, hence having a large output density and a large energy density.

Electric double layer capacitor including current collector having a plurality of apertures therein

An electric double layer capacitor includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode which faces the positive electrode and is isolated therefrom, and an electrolyte solution. The positive electrode includes a first current collector of a metal foil and a first polarizable electrode layer on the first current collector, the first polarizable electrode layer containing a phosphorus compound. The negative electrode includes a second current collector of a metal foil and a second polarizable electrode layer on the second current collector. The electrolyte solution, with which the first and second polarizable electrode layers are impregnated, has fluorine-containing anions as an electrolyte solute.

Electric double layer capacitor

A pressure control valve provided on a terminal plate of a capacitor includes a filter, a valve body and a cap. The filter is provided so as to close a through-hole disposed in a terminal plate and is composed of a gas permeable sheet preventing permeation of the electrolyte solution. The valve body is formed of an elastic material, has a cylindrical part and a bottom part, and is disposed so that the bottom part covers the through-hole of the terminal plate. The cap is fixed to the terminal plate, covers the valve body, and holds the valve body in a composed state with respect to the terminal plate. The cap is provided with a vent hole. The valve body and the filter are spaced apart from each other.

An electric double layer capacitor includes first and second collectors, first and second polarizable electrode layers provided on the first and second collectors, respectively, a separator having an insulating property provided between the first and second polarizable electrode layers, and an electrolytic solution impregnated in the separator and the first and second polarizable electrode layers. A lower electric potential is to be applied to the second collector than to the first collector. The electrolytic solution contains anion including fluorine as electrolyte. The separator includes a separation layer facing the second polarizable electrode layer, and an inhibition layer facing the first polarizable electrode layer. The separation layer contains cellulose. The inhibition layer is made of material different from that of the separation layer. The inhibition layer prevents cellulose from decomposing. This electric double layer capacitor prevents the separator from dissolving, having an excellent long-term reliability.

Electric double layer capacitor and method for manufacturing same

A capacitor includes a metal case and a terminal plate. The metal case accommodates a capacitor element together with a driving electrolyte and is joined to one of the electrodes of the capacitor element at its inner bottom surface. The terminal plate is joined to the other electrode at its inner surface so as to seal the opening of the metal case. The terminal plate is provided with a pressure regulating valve also functioning as a driving-electrolyte filling hole. The pressure regulating valve includes a ring-shaped elastic member which is pressed into the wall formed on the terminal plate.
