An image forming method which comprises copying an original on a photosensitive material employing a direct reversal photographic emulsion is disclosed. The method comprises conducting ordinary exposure when the original image is a positive image and conducting exposure at high illuminance when the original image is a negative image. Thereby, it is possible to obtain a direct positive image from either the original positive or original negative image. The process is greatly advantageous with respect to forming positive images since the process can be utilized to obtain positive images regardless whether the original image is positive or negative.

Image forming method

A color diffusion transfer photographic element comprising (a) a light sensitive component containing at least one light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer associated with a dye releasing redox compound, (b) a dye image receiving component and (c) an alkaline processing composition component, wherein the improvement comprises at least one of said components (a), (b) and (c) containing a diffusible hydroquinone type compound having the half wave potential of polarography in the range of from -300 mV to -380 mV measured using a saturated calomel electrode as a reference electrode in a buffer solution having a pH of 13.0.degree. at 25.degree. C. The diffusible hydroquinone type compound has excellent gradation control properties and is particularly suitable for controlling gradation of the toe part in a photographic characteristic curve of a color diffusion transfer photograph. A typical example of a diffusible hydroquinone compound of the invention is: ##STR1##

A color diffusion transfer photographic element which comprises (a) a light-sensitive element containing at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer associated with a dye releasing redox compound, (b) a dye image receiving element and (c) an alkaline processing composition element, wherein the improvement comprises said alkaline processing composition element containing (1) a developing agent having one-electron oxidation reduction potential in the range of from -80 mV to -200 mV with respect to a saturated calomel electrode at a pH of 11.0 and (2) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by following general formula (I) or (II) ##STR1## wherein A and B each represents a non-metallic atomic group necessary to form a 5-, 6- or 7-membered ring; R.sub.1, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each represents an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an alkenyl group, an aryl group or a substituted aryl group, R.sub.1 may further represent ##STR2## and R.sub.4 may further represent ##STR3## wherein Y represents a divalent group; R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an aryl group, a substituted aryl group, an alkoxy group, and aryloxy group, an alkylthio group or an arylthio group, with the proviso that R.sub.2 is not a methyl group when the compound represented by general formula (I) is a pyridinium salt; and X.sup..crclbar. represents an anion, with the proviso that X.sup..crclbar. is not present when an inner salt is formed, wherein R.sub.3 may further connect with the ring formed with B to form a biscyclo ring system.

Color diffusion transfer photographic element with redox dye releasers

A color diffusion transfer photographic element is disclosed, comprising (a) a photosensitive component containing at least one photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer combined with a DRR compound, (b) a dye image receiving component and (c) an alkaline processing composition component, wherein the improvement comprises at least one of said components (a), (b), and (c) containing a compound represented by the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms.

In a color diffusion transfer photographic element containing at least one dye-releasing redox compound-containing layer associated with a silver halide photographic emulsion and capable of releasing a diffusible dye as a result of a redox reaction with the oxidation product of a developing agent produced by the development of silver halide with an alkaline processing solution, and at least one layer containing an antistain agent, the improvement which comprises said dye-releasing redox compound-containing layer associated with said silver halide photographic emulsion being spaced from the adjacent interlayer containing said antistain agent by a spacer layer essentially containing a hydrophilic colloid or by a silver halide emulsion layer having substantially the same spectral sensitivity as that of the associated silver halide emulsion.

In a color diffusion-transfer photographic element comprising a support carrying at least two color image forming units, each comprising a selectively sensitized silver halide emulsion layer and a color image-forming material contained in either said silver halide emulsion layer or a layer adjacent to said silver halide emulsion layer, there is provided an intermediate layer between two of said color image-forming units or protective overcoating layer comprising a polymer of at least one monoacrylate or monomethacrylate of an aliphatic polyhydric alcohol.

Color diffusion-transfer photographic element

In a color diffusion transfer photographic material which comprises a photosensitive element containing at least one silver halide emulsion layer having associated therein a non-diffusible dye image-providing material, an image-receiving element for immobilizing therein diffusible dye formed by the oxidation reaction of the dye image-providing material and a primary aromatic amino color developing agent to form dye images, and a processing composition for developing the exposed silver halide in the silver halide emulsion layer and transferring the diffusible dye formed into the image-receiving layer with at least one of the photosensitive elements, the image-receiving element or the processing composition containing a primary aromatic amino color developing agent or a precursor thereof, with the photosensitive element and/or the image-receiving element of the photographic material containing at least one of divinyl sulfone and a divinyl sulfone derivative represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein B represents an atomic group necessary for forming an ammonium group, a sulfonium group or a phosphonium group; X.sup.- represents an acid anion; and n is 0, 1 or 2.

Color diffusion transfer photographic materials with sulfone color

In a diffusion transfer color photographic material including a photosensitive element comprising silver halide emulsion layers having associated therewith dye image forming materials, an image receiving element, and a liquid processing composition for developing the silver halide emulsion layers after image-wise exposure and diffusing the dye images formed into the image receiving element, the dye images formed are stabilized and the formation of stains at blank areas is effectively prevented by incorporating one or more N-.alpha.-sulfoalkylated amino acids into at least one of the photosensitive element, the image receiving element or the liquid processing composition. A process using the same is also disclosed.

Diffusion transfer photographic materials with color developer scavenger

Pure-blue images are obtained by developing a diazo photographic material containing a photosensitive diazonium compound in the presence of a coupler capable of forming a blue dye by coupling with the photosensitive diazonium compound, the coupler being represented by the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents ##STR2## (wherein R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms), --COR.sub.4 (wherein R.sub.4 represents an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms or substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group, or ##STR3## (WHEREIN N REPRESENTS 1 OR 2) OR BY THE GENERAL FORMULA ##STR4## wherein R.sub.5 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms or ##STR5## (WHEREIN N REPRESENTS 1 OR 2).

A color diffusion transfer photographic material which comprises: (a) a light-sensitive element containing at least one silver halide emulsion layer having a dye image-providing material associated therewith; (b) an image-receiving element capable of imagewise fixing the dye image-providing material as a result of exposure and development of the silver halide emulsion layer; and (c) a processing composition capable of causing development of the silver halide emulsion layer and containing a mercapto compound having a molecular weight of about 230 or higher; with at least one of the light-sensitive element, the image-receiving element and the processing composition containing a developing agent for the silver halide.

A light-sensitive member for use in a color diffusion transfer element which comprises a support having thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer and at least one dye developing agent combined with the silver halide in the silver halide emulsion layer, wherein at least one layer on the support contains an auxiliary developing agent selected from the group consisting of a catechol having at least one substituent, with at least one of the substituents being selected from the group consisting of an alkoxy group, an acylamino group, an acylimino group, an alkylsulfonamido group, an alkylthio group, an arylthio group, an alkylseleno group, an arylseleno group and a heterocyclic group; dissolved in a substantially water-insoluble solvent and present in the layer as finely divided liquid droplets.
