An adjustable platform assembly for raising an appliance includes a platform with various spaced vertical leg members. Each of the leg members has a first mounting aperture for fixing an appliance to the platform, and a second mounting aperture for fixing an adjustable caster to the leg member. A consumer can adjust the platform assembly to a desired height by altering the height of the caster members. A decorative faceplate is provided which removably attaches to the front of the platform assembly to give the appliance a built-in look.

Appliance with integrated, vertically adjustable platform

A vertically adjustable modular kitchen system includes a modular appliance and/or storage unit including a first frame section, a base unit including a second frame section having arranged therein a plurality of vertically adjustable supports and a control. The modular appliance and/or storage and base units are designed to interconnect one with the other forming a kitchen system. The control, provided with each base unit, enables a consumer to adjust the vertical height of the kitchen assembly associated with the particular base unit by raising or lowering the vertically adjustable supports. The appliance and/or storage and base units are further designed to integrate into either wall assemblies or kitchen island assemblies. The modular appliance and/or storage units will include a variety of configurations such as storage modules and appliance modules. Appliance modules are each designed to accommodate a particular appliance enabling a consumer to design and construct a kitchen system to meet particular needs.

Modular kitchen system

A kitchen island vent hood is provided which telescopes upwardly and downwardly and extends forwardly and rearwardly for use between operative and non-operative positions. In the non-operative position, the vent hood resides within a recessed area of the island, at a level slightly above the countertop of the island. The lift column of the vent hood assembly extends at approximately a 15&deg; from vertical so as to position the vent hood over the cooking surface. The vent hood moves forwardly so as to cover the cooking surface and moves rearwardly for storage in the island recess.

Kitchen island vent hood

A building includes an exterior wall provided with a door which can be opened to expose a plurality of compartments for receiving a wide range of deliverable products. The compartments are defined as sections of one or more appliances. Preferably, the exterior door can be used to expose both fresh food and freezer compartments of a refrigerator, as well as one or more compartments of an oven unit. Each of the compartments is also accessible from an interior of the building through an associated inner door. The inner and outer doors can be electronically latched and are linked together such that at least the exterior door is prevented from being opened whenever a specified interior door is open.
