The present invention relates to filled polymeric materials including a thermoplastic polymer and a metallic filler and to light weight composite materials, which comprise a metallic layer and a polymeric layer, the polymeric layer containing the filled polymeric material. The filled polymeric material preferably is an extruded sheet. The composite materials of the present invention may be formed using conventional stamping equipment at ambient temperatures and/or welded to other metal materials using conventional welding techniques.

Delamination resistant, weldable and formable light weight composites

The present invention relates to filled polymeric materials including a polymer and a filler distributed within the polymer, and to light weight composites which comprise at least a pair of metallic layers and a polymeric layer interposed between the pair of metallic layers, the polymeric layer containing the filled polymeric material. The composite materials of the present invention may be formed using conventional stamping equipment at ambient temperatures. Composite materials of the present invention may also be capable of being welded to other metal materials. The composite materials may be employed in an automotive part. Preferred composite materials include one or any combination of the following features: metallic fibers, ribbon fibers; or a polyolefin.

Light weight composite material systems, polymeric materials, and methods

The present invention relates to filled polymeric materials including a polymer and a mass of metallic fibers distributed within the polymer, and to light weight composites which comprise at least a pair of metallic layers and a polymeric layer interposed between the pair of metallic layers, the polymeric layer containing the filled polymeric material. The composite materials of the present invention may be formed using conventional stamping equipment at ambient temperatures. Composite materials of the present invention may also be capable of being welded to other metal materials using a resistance welding process such as resistance spot welding. Preferred composite materials include one or any combination of the following features: metallic fibers that are ribbon fibers; a polymer selected from a polyolefin, a polyamide, or a combination thereof; or a metallic layer (e.g., one or both of the pair of metallic layers) having a surface facing the filled polymeric material that is untreated.

Formable light weight composite material systems and methods

An electrically conductive composition and a method for producing same, for example by injection molding. The composition includes a matrix comprising substantially a first thermoplastic component, a second thermoplastic component having a higher polarity than that of the first thermoplastic component, the second component encapsulating a plurality of fibers forming a network of encapsulated fibers within the matrix, and a carbon component preferentially attracted to the second component so as to make said network an electrically conductive network within the matrix.

Electrically conductive compositions and methods for producing same

An asbestos-vinyl chloride polymer composition suitable for melt processing into rigid products is disclosed. The composition comprises (a) a vinyl chloride homopolymer, vinyl chloride copolymer or a mixture thereof, (b) up to 150% by weight based on the weight of polymer of asbestos, and (c) a stabilizer system composed of 1-5% by weight based on the weight of polymer of at least one organometal compound wherein the metal is selected from Ba, Cd, Zn, Pb, Sn, Ca or combinations thereof, at least 3% by weight based on the weight of polymer of epoxide and a compound selected from a polyol or a metal derivative of the polyol or an amino compound of polyacetic acid in an amount of 3-20% by weight based on the weight of the polymer.
