The present disclosure provides an article including an organic layer having a nanostructured first surface including nanofeatures defining nanorecesses and an opposing second surface; and a ceramic layer disposed on the nanostructured first surface of the organic layer and filling at least a portion of the nanorecesses. The ceramic layer has a nanostructured first surface including nanofeatures and an opposing second surface, and the nanostructured first surface of the ceramic layer is interpenetrated with the nanostructured first surface of the organic layer. The present disclosure also provides a method of making the article. The method includes obtaining an organic layer having a nanostructured first surface including nanofeatures defining nanorecesses and an opposing second surface; and filling at least a portion of the nanorecesses of the nanostructured first surface of the organic layer with a ceramic material to form the article. In addition, the present disclosure provides articles including interpenetrating layers having different elastic storage moduli, such as non-metallic layers, and methods of making the articles. The articles can exhibit high abrasion resistance.

Articles including nanostructured surfaces and interpenetrating layers, and methods of making same

Nanostructured articles, materials for the nanostructured articles, and intermediate articles for use in making the nanostructured articles. The nanostructured articles can be formed on a flexible film and are useful for optical metasurface applications and possibly other applications. The articles can include nanoreplicated layers or pattern transfer layers of engineered nanostructures.

Nanostructured optical films and intermediates

A composite cooling film comprises an ultraviolet-reflective multilayer optical film and a reflective microporous layer secured thereto. The ultraviolet-reflective multilayer optical film is at least 50 percent reflective of ultraviolet radiation over a majority of the wavelength range of at least 340 but less than 400 nanometers. The reflective microporous layer has a continuous phase comprising a nonfluorinated organic polymer and is diffusely reflective of solar radiation over a majority the wavelength range of 400 to 2500 nanometers, inclusive. The composite cooling film has an average absorbance over the wavelength range of 8 to 13 microns of at least 0.85. An article comprising the composite cooling film adhered to a substrate is also disclosed.

Described herein are compositions including a silanol compound that is suitably synthesized, stored, and coated from an aqueous solution. Once coated and cured on a suitable surface, the aqueous silanol compositions result in cleanable and abrasion resistant surfaces, such as dry-erase surfaces that release permanent marker by rubbing with a dry cloth or towel. Also disclosed herein are methods of making the silanol compounds, methods of making cleanable substrates, and cleanable substrates suitably formed using the disclosed methods.

Materials and methods for forming nano-structures on substrates

A nanostructured article includes a substrate; a plurality of first nanostructures disposed on, and extending away from, the substrate; and a covalently crosslinked fluorinated polymeric layer disposed on the plurality of first nanostructures. The plurality of first nanostructures includes polyurethane. The polymeric layer at least partially fills spaces between the first nanostructures to an average minimum height above the substrate of at least 30 nm such that the polymeric layer has a nanostructured surface defined by, and facing away from, the plurality of first nanostructures.

Nanostructured article

The present disclosure relates to abrasive articles including conformable coatings, e.g. a hydrophobic coating, methods of making and polishing systems therefrom. The present disclosure provides an abrasive layer, having a hydrophobic exterior surface, including at least one of (i) a plurality of individual diamond particles and (ii) a plurality of engineered features having a conformable diamond layer and; a conformable hydrophobic layer in contact with and at least partially coating at least one of the plurality of individual diamond particles and the conformable diamond layer and, wherein the conformable hydrophobic layer includes diamond like glass and forms the hydrophobic exterior surface and the contact angle of the hydrophobic exterior surface is greater than 110 degrees.

Abrasive articles including conformable coatings and polishing system therefrom

Stray light absorbing films are described. In particular, stray light films including a black substrate, and first and second sets of microstructures are described. The described films can reduce stray light reflections in sensor modules and other optical devices. The first set of microstructures can have an average largest diameter between 0.5 and 125 μm. The second set of microstructures can have an average largest diameter of less than ½ of the average largest diameter of the first set of microstructures. The stray light absorbing film can have a specular reflectance for 8° incidence for wavelengths from 350-1200 nm of less than 0.3%.

Anti-reflective article includes a layer defining an anti-reflective surface. The anti-reflective surface includes a series of alternating micro-peaks and micro-spaces extending along an axis. The surface also includes a series of nano-peaks extending along an axis. The nano-peaks are disposed at least on the micro-spaces and, optionally, the micro-peaks. The article may be disposed on a photovoltaic module or skylight to reduce reflections and resist the collection of dust and dirt.

Anti-reflective surface structures

A composite cooling film () comprises an antisoiling layer () secured to a first major surface of a reflective microporous layer (). The reflective microporous layer () comprises a first fluoropolymer and is diffusely reflective of electromagnetic radiation over a majority of wavelengths in the range of 400 to 2500 nanometers. The antisoiling layer () has an outwardly facing antisoiling surface () opposite the micro-voided polymer film. An article () comprising the composite cooling film () secured to a substrate () is also disclosed.

An article is provided that includes a substrate, a silicon containing layer on the substrate, and a layer including metallic Pt on the silicon containing layer. The silicon containing layer is a diamond-like glass layer. Optionally, the substrate is a porous membrane. In some cases, the silicon containing layer is a continuous layer.

An article having anti-microbial effect is provided. The article includes an occlusive layer and a substrate having a nanostructured surface. The nanostructured surface is coated with a metal oxide layer and the metal oxide layer includes a metal oxide.

Anti-microbial articles and methods of using same

A sensing element includes a substrate including an electrically non-conductive surface, at least one high surface energy region, and an electrode pair structure disposed on the electrically non-conductive surface. The electrode pair structure includes at least one pair of electrodes having a gap therebetween. At least one of the electrodes is at least partially within the at least one high surface energy region. The sensing element is configured to sense fluid-soluble particulate matter.

Sensing element for respirator

A method of applying a pattern to a nonplanar surface. A stamp has a major surface with pattern elements having a lateral dimension of greater than 0 and less than about 5 microns. The major surface of the stamp has a functionalizing molecule with a functional group selected to chemically bind to the nonplanar surface. The stamp is positioned to initiate rolling contact with the nonplanar surface, and contacts the nonplanar surface to form a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of the functionalizing material thereon and impart the arrangement of pattern elements thereto. The major surface of the stamp is translated with respect to the nonplanar surface such that: a contact pressure is controlled at an interface between the stamping surfaces and the nonplanar surface, and a contact force at the interface is allowed to vary while the stamping surfaces and the nonplanar surface are in contact with each other.
