A process for purifying a peroxygen compound in an aqueous solution of a peroxygen-stable acid or salt of the acid, comprising contacting the aqueous solution at a pH of about 0.5 to 4 with a chelating ion exchange resin and separating the product as a purified aqueous solution, or optionally as a solid.

Soda ash is prepared from dry-mined nahcolite ore by partially calcining the ore, dissolving the ore in aqueous solution, separating the resultant solution from the ore insolubles, crystallizing anhydrous sodium carbonate or sodium carbonate monohydrate, and recovering the crystallized sodium carbonate.

The invention provides a process to increase the mol ratio of nuclearly hydrogenated working compound to the total working solution for the production of hydrogen peroxide by the cyclic reduction, oxidation, and extraction of an alkylated anthraquinone. The process produces the nuclearly hydrogenated working compound without producing substantial quantities of undesired by-products.

Continuous process for producing carbon bisulfide by reaction of sulfur and hydrocarbon. A hydrocarbon stream is introduced into a sulfur stream and the hot reaction mixture is moved vertically from the zone of introduction and/or the streams are fed countercurrent to impinge on each other.

Carbon bisulfide production

Sulfur produced by the reaction of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide in the presence of organic solvent solutions of alkali or alkaline earth metal salts of carboxylic acids is contaminated with these carbonaceous materials. The sulfur is purified by washing with water at elevated temperatures to reduce the carbonaceous material content to 0.007% carbon, by weight.

Purification of sulfur

Continuous process for producing carbon bisulfide by reaction of sulfur and hydrocarbon gas containing a multi-carbon hydrocarbon having at least three carbon atoms at a pressure in the range of 3.5 to 12 atmospheres. A stream of sulfur at a temperature of at least 650.degree. C and a stream of the hydrocarbon gas are fed into a reaction zone continuously. The temperatures and rates of flow of said vapor and gas are such that the calculated mixing temperature thereof is in the range of about 585 to 700.degree. C., and the flow conditions and mixing conditions of said gas and vapor streams are such that the hydrocarbon gas become substantially completely mixed with the sulfur vapor before the hydrocarbon comes into contact with a wall of the reaction zone.
