Cosmetic composition containing siloxane-based polyamides as thickening agents

An invention is disclosed which comprises siloxane-based polyamides as gelling agents for cosmetic products, methods for making such agents, formulations therof and cosmetic formulations therewith. These polyamides contain siloxane groups in the main chain and act to thicken compositions containing volatile and/or non-volatile silicone fluids. Cosmetic compositions may be made by adding at least one active ingredient such as an antiperspirant.

Cosmetic composition containing siloxane based polyamides as thickening

The invention comprises a liquid composition which provides a drier feel and reduced leakage when used with certain types of applicators, especially an applicator having a porous surface, which composition is made by combining an active phase and a silicone phase. The active phase is made by combining: (a) 10-70% of a selected glycol; (b) 0.1-10% of a nonionic emulsifier having an HLB greater than 8; (c) 0.01-30% of a cosmetically active ingredient; and (d) 0-20% of ethanol and/or isopropanol. The silicone phase is made by combining: (a) from 0.1-10% of a selected emulsifier; (b) 0-30% of a non-volatile silicone; (c) 0-30% of a volatile silicone; and (d) 0-25% of an organic emollient; provided that: (a) the silicone phase contains at least 10% silicone; (b) the ratio of silicone phase to active phase is in the range of 1:1 to 1:4; and (c) the composition is processed to maintain a viscosity in the range of 2,000-200,000 centipoise ('cps').

Antiperspirant formulation for porous applicator

An invention is disclosed which comprises gelling agents which (1) contain both siloxane groups and hydrogen-bonding groups to thicken compositions containing silicone fluids (volatile and/or non-volatile silicone fluids); (2) are non-flowable solids at room temperature; and (3) dissolve in a fluid which contains silicone at a temperature of 25-250 degrees C to form a translucent or clear solution at a temperature in this range. Cosmetic compositions may be made by adding at least one active ingredient such as an antiperspirant.

Cosmetic composition containing thickening agent of siloxane polymer

Disclosed are antiperspirant stick compositions that exhibit substantially no visible residue (whitening) upon application to the skin or after drying. The compositions include both emollients that are silicone materials and emollients that are not silicone materials, these materials having a refractive index of at least 1.4460, in addition to including a vehicle (for example, cyclomethicone), a gelling agent (for example, stearyl alcohol and hydrogenated castor oil) and the active antiperspirant material (for example, particulate antiperspirant metal salts). These compositions reduce the necessity of using expensive silicone materials, while still achieving antiperspirant compositions with substantially no visible residue.

Antiperspirant stick composition

Disclosed are basic aluminum antiperspirant materials having univalent complex oxoanions (e.g., nitrate); methods of making such materials; antiperspirant compositions containing such basic aluminum materials, another antiperspirant active material (e.g., a basic zirconium halide salt), and optionally a neutral amino acid; and methods of making such compositions. Size exclusion high performance liquid chromatography chromatograms of the disclosed basic aluminum materials have a peak 4 relative area of at least 25%, a peak 3 relative area of less than 60%, the sum of the peaks 3 and 4 being at least 50%; and less than 10% of the chromatographic peaks eluting at peaks 1 and 2. The disclosed basic aluminum materials have less than 25% of the aluminum in the form of Al.sup.b polyhydroxyaquoaluminum, and have a .sup.27 Al NMR spectrum in which the area of the 71.5-73.5 ppm resonance line includes more than 50% of the combined areas of the 62.5-63.5 ppm and 71.5-73.5 ppm resonance lines, and 5%-30% of the total area under the spectrum from 140 ppm to -80 ppm is contained in the resonance line at 71.5-73.5 ppm. The basic aluminum material of the present invention can be produced by adding a stoichiometric or near-stoichiometric amount of aluminum metal to a solution of an aluminum salt having a univalent complex oxoanion; the basic aluminum material can also be made by adding to such solution of the aluminum salt, aluminum metal having, in total, a relatively small surface area (large-sized particles of aluminum).

Basic aluminum antiperspirant active materials having enhanced activity,

Described is a fragrancing composition having fragrancing components that are not activated until, e.g., application to the skin of a human. The composition is alkaline or (if anhydrous) capable of producing an alkaline pH when in contact with water, prior to application, and includes (1) a vehicle such that when the composition is in contact with water, prior to application, the composition is at an alkaline pH; and (2) at least one potential fragrance that is at least one compound having little or no odor in the alkaline composition but which, e.g., is hydrolyzed in a lower pH environment to produce compounds having a relatively strong aroma. Upon application of the alkaline composition to the skin surface, the strong buffering capacity of the skin (the surface of which has a normal pH of 5.5-7.0) neutralizes alkalinity of the composition (lowers pH) so as to restore normal skin surface pH; the potential fragrance is then hydrolyzed at the lower pH to release the compound having relatively strong aroma. The potential fragrance can be incorporated as a component of a transparent (clear) deodorant stick composition for application to human axillary regions, the fragrance being released after application to the body.

Composition containing body activated fragrance for contacting the skin

Disclosed are basic aluminum antiperspirant materials having univalent complex oxoanions (e.g., nitrate); methods of making such materials; antiperspirant compositions containing such basic aluminum materials, another antiperspirant active material (e.g., a basic zirconium halide salt), and optionally a neutral amino acid: and methods of making such compositions. Disclosed is a gel or stick composition for reduction of body malodor, containing active deodorant and/or antiperspirant ingredients, a polyamide gelling agent and a solvent system for the polyamide gelling agent. The polyamide gelling agent has good stability, even in the presence of acidic antiperspirant metal salts, and can provide a clear deodorant or antiperspirant gel or stick. The composition has good pay-off characteristics and application properties, and good structural integrity. Moreover, the composition can be formulated so as not to leave any undesirable residue, such as a white residue left after applying conventional antiperspirant sticks.

Deodorant and antiperspirant compositions containing polyamide gelling

Disclosed is a clear, crystal-free, soap-gelled cosmetic stick composition. The composition includes a soap gelling agent (e.g., sodium stearate); at least two aliphatic polyhydric alcohols that are solvents for the soap gelling agent and that have a relatively small molecular weight and a relatively large molecular weight (e.g., propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol), respectively; a propoxylated ether that is a further solvent for the soap gelling agent, such as a propoxylated butyl ether (e.g., PPG-14 butyl ether); water; and a clarifying agent. The clarifying agent is a mixture of (a) a propoxylated fatty alcohol, such as a propoxylated myristyl ether (e.g., PPG-3 myristyl ether), and (b) a water-soluble, N-substituted aliphatic fatty acid amide surfactant (e.g., a combination of cocamide DEA and cocoyl sarcosine). The stick composition has improved surface aesthetics and improved payout, and has less pullaway from the container. The disclosed cosmetic stick composition can be a vehicle for various active materials, such as deodorant active materials, sunscreens, etc., so as to provide a clear deodorant stick, a sunscreen stick, etc.

Crystal clear cosmetic stick composition

Disclosed is a fragrance composition having enhanced efficacy for masking malodor for extended periods of time, to be used in deodorant compositions. The fragrance composition includes materials providing fruity, aldehydic and green notes, in an olfactory effective amount, and also includes at least 10% (e.g., 10%-28%) by weight, of the total weight of the fragrance composition, of acetyl hexamethyl tetralin. The fragrance composition can be incorporated in a body deodorant (for example, a deodorant for axillary regions, such as a deodorant stick) to mask body malodor arising in, e.g., axillary regions.

Enhanced efficacy, long-lasting fragrance composition, and deodorant

Disclosed is a fragrance composition having enhanced efficacy for masking malodor, for extended periods of time, the fragrance composition containing fragrance materials that provide a top note and/or a middle note and/or a bottom note, and also containing more than 28%, and up to 95%, by weight, of the total weight of the composition, of acetyl hexamethyl tetralin. The fragrance composition can be incorporated in deodorant compositions to be applied to a person's skin, e.g., in axillary regions, to combat body malodor, including malodor arising in axillary regions.
