RF and microwave radiation directing or controlling components are provided that may be monolithic, that may be formed from a plurality of electrodeposition operations and/or from a plurality of deposited layers of material, that may include switches, inductors, antennae, transmission lines, filters, hybrid couplers, antenna arrays and/or other active or passive components. Components may include non-radiation-entry and non-radiation-exit channels that are useful in separating sacrificial materials from structural materials. Preferred formation processes use electrochemical fabrication techniques (e.g. including selective depositions, bulk depositions, etching operations and planarization operations) and post-deposition processes (e.g. selective etching operations and/or back filling operations).

Miniature RF and microwave components and methods for fabricating such components

Multi-layer, multi-material fabrication methods include depositing at least one structural material and at least one sacrificial material during the formation of each of a plurality of layers wherein deposited materials for each layer are planarized to set a boundary level for the respective layer and wherein during formation of at least one layer at least three materials are deposited with a planarization operation occurring before deposition of the last material to set a planarization level above the layer boundary level and wherein a planarization occurs after deposition of the last material level above the layer boundary level and wherein a planarization occurs after deposition of the last material whereby the boundary level for the layer is set. Some formation processes use electrochemical fabrication techniques (e.g. including selective depositions, bulk depositions, etching operations and planarization operations) and post-deposition processes (e.g. selective etching operations and/or back filling operations).

Method for fabricating miniature structures or devices such as RF and microwave components

Large tissue regions are treated using pairs of electrode arrays. The electrode arrays may be concave and disposed in tissue so that their concave portions are opposed to each other. Axial conductors may be provided extending from the arrays and toward each other in order to increase the heating of tissues lying along the axis between the deployed electrode arrays. By properly spacing the electrode arrays apart and selecting the diameters of the arrays, desired volumes of tissue may be treated, typically with a bipolar, radiofrequency current.

The invention provides methods and kits relating to identification of ductal orifices on a mammalian breast nipple. The methods employ technology to measure characteristic electrical signals on a nipple surface to locate and image or map the ductal orifices on the nipple surface. Kits are also provided comprising materials for identifying a duct by characteristic electrical signal, and for additionally analyzing the signals, and accessing or marking the ducts once they have been identified by the characteristic electrical signal values.

An arcade game including a movable object such as a punching bag for a player to repetitively hit or strike during a game. The bag is suspended from a frame structure that is adjustable in height to accommodate differently-sized players. A sensor is positioned to detect when the punching bag swings into a sensed zone and impacts the underside of a support surface. A score is increased each time the punching bag is detected during a predetermined time period. The punching bag is lowered to a playing position during a game and retracted when a game is over so that the punching bag may not be moved between games. An alternate embodiment includes a display screen for displaying visual images such as an opponent that is updated in accordance with the strikes from the player on the punching bag.

Normal nerve function is restored across severed ends of a nerve fascicle by inserting between the severed ends a laminated chip perforated with an array of holes each sized to accommodate approximately one axon and each containing at least two electrically conductive regions in ohmic contact with the inner surface of the hole at discrete locations along the axial direction of the hole. Proximal axon segments are permitted to propagate through the holes to join distal segments in random fashion and to be in contact with each of the two electrical contacts. Each contact is part of a circuit pattern capable of monitoring impulses, applying blocking potentials and placing selected pairs of proximal and distal axon segments in electrical contact such that nerve impulses can be routed as desired to restore normal nerve impulse communication and hence nerve function.
