The invention relates to a method and an aluminium alloy sheet material. The method of producing aluminium alloy sheet material comprising the following steps: continuous strip casting of a sheet at a predetermined solidification rate ensuring material microstructure exhibiting primary particles having average size below 1 micrometer, and (cold) rolling of the strip cast sheet to an appropriate gauge with optionally intermediate annealing during the cold rolling. It is an object of the present invention to provide a novel method of production of Al-alloy sheets applicable on heat exchanger sheet based components resulting in improved pitting corrosion applying (base) Al-alloy material with higher Fe-content.

Method for producing aluminum alloy sheet material and an aluminium alloy sheet

The invention relates to a series of extra strong and durable aluminium alloy brazing sheets with enhanced corrosion resistance for brazed heat exchangers. The alloy sheets are based on recycled materials and are suitable for manufacturing of fins, welded tubes, headers and sideplates. The alloy sheets showed improved corrosion performance with respect to pitting corrosion, excellent high temperature sagging resistance and post braze strength, and a good brazeability. By optimising the material combination of fin, tube, header and sideplates it is possible to produce a heat exchanger with adequate corrosion performance in SWAAT.

An improved process is provided for forming a zinc-base alloy coating on an aluminum alloy profile, such as a tube or microtube used in the assembling and brazing of a heat exchanger which is suitable for automotive applications. The process of the present invention is a continuous, high speed coating technique which can utilize aluminum alloy profiles on which an aluminum oxide layer is present. Accordingly, the present invention encompasses an operation by which the aluminum oxide layer is removed so as to enable the zinc-base alloy to metallurgically adhere to the surface of the aluminum alloy profile. The process of this invention also is capable of closely controlling the thickness of the zinc-base alloy coating, such that a sufficient but minimal amount of coating is present to furnish corrosion protection as well as provide sufficient filler metal for a subsequent soldering or low temperature brazing operation.

Process for continuous hot dip zinc coating of alminum profiles

A method of joining Al-members, includes providing at least one member with a thin coating layer of zinc/zinc alloy metal. Interface alloys of Al and Zn are melted and progressively formed from the Al-members with increasing temperature thereof in a brazing furnace.
