The present invention provides effective and safe medicaments for the treatment of connective tissue diseases of the skin, particularly with respect to the treatment of cutaneous forms of Lupus Erythematous. The medicaments comprise as the therapeutically active ingredient a betaadrenoceptor agonist. The invention furthermore relates to dermatological compositions without skin sensitization properties and which contain enantiomerically pure or enriched R-enantiomers of a betaadrenoceptor agonist.

Treatment of connective tissue diseases of the skin

The present invention relates to novel combinations of fatty acid derivatives and pyridine carboxy derivatives, including fatty acid esters with glycerol and 3-carboxy pyridine derivatives such as niacinamide. Such combinations have surprisingly shown antiviral and anti-microbial activity and the use for the treatment of inflammatory conditions and infections is disclosed herein.

Novel compositions of matter containing aromatic compounds and terpenoids which are present in and may preferably be derived from the plant(Zingiberaceae) show synergistic effects with respect to immunomodulation, and they significantly suppress hypersensitivity reactions. They can for example be formulated into pharmaceuticals, cosmetics or dietary supplements. A method of preparing such compositions fromis also described.

The present invention relates to mixtures comprising at least one of the fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5n3) and docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n3) and the plant Zingiber officinale Roscoe or parts thereof or an extract or a component thereof as novel pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements or cosmetic compositions containing such mixtures, and to the use of such mixtures for preparing a medicament or a dietary supplement for the suppression of hypersensitivity and/or inflammatory reaction.

The present invention relates to mixtures comprising at least one the fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5n3) and docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n3) and the plant Roscoe or parts thereof or an extract or a component thereof as novel pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements or cosmetic compositions containing such mixtures, and to the use of such mixtures for preparing a medicament or a dietary supplement for the suppression of hypersensitivity and/or inflammatory reaction.

Certain diterpenes as well as extracts or concentrates of the plant,containing at least one such diterpene can be used as medicaments for immunomodulation and for the alleviation of pain. Specifically, they are used for preparing medicaments for the treatment or prevention of hypersensitivity diseases, in particular IgE mediated allergic reactions and conditions as well as autoimmune disorders. Extracts of the plant can i.e. be obtained by extraction or by hydro, steam or vacuum distillation of fresh or dried,or parts thereof, preferably the rhizome. Extraction may be performed with water or with a number of different organic solvents, preferably water miscible solvents, or with mixtures thereof. After the primary distillation or extraction process a second step of processing, such as liquid-liquid extraction, column chromatography, steam distillation or vacuum distillation, can be employed to remove or to concentrate and possibly isolate any constituent of the extract.

The use of,(PI) or its parts, extract or components, for enhancement of the TH2 pathway of the immune system, enhancement of levels of interleukin-4 and -10, and selective suppression of cyclooxygenase-2. Also claimed are: (1) composition containing PI; and (2) extracts of PI and their preparation.
