A medical delivery device suitable for insertion into a lumen of a patient, the medical device () comprising a capsule () sized to be inserted into the lumen, the capsule comprising a base member, and an actuation mechanism comprising an actuation member () configured for movement relative to the base member along an axis, and an energy source () associated with the actuation member for powering the actuation member to move relative to the base member along the axis. The base member and the actuation member define a latch assembly comprising: a) a dissolvable firing member (), the dissolvable firing member being at least partially dissolvable when subjected to a biological fluid, b) a retainer portion () comprised by one of the base member and the actuation member, and c) a movable latch () configured for lateral movement relative to the axis, the movable latch defining a first surface with a blocking portion (), and a second surface () configured for interacting with the dissolvable firing member (). In a pre-firing configuration, the blocking portion () of the movable latch engages the retainer portion () in a latching engagement, and the second surface () of the movable latch interacts with the dissolvable firing member to restrict lateral movement of the movable latch thereby preventing release of the latching engagement. In a firing configuration where the dissolvable firing member () has become at least partially dissolved, the movable latch is allowed to move laterally thereby releasing the latching engagement.

Medical device with actuation mechanism

Self-righting articles, such as self-righting capsules for administration to a subject, are generally provided. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may be configured such that the article may orient itself relative to a surface (e.g., a surface of a tissue of a subject). The self-righting articles described herein may comprise one or more tissue engaging surfaces configured to engage (e.g., interface with, inject into, anchor) with a surface (e.g., a surface of a tissue of a subject). In some embodiments, the self-righting article may have a particular shape and/or distribution of density (or mass) which, for example, enables the self-righting behavior of the article. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may comprise a tissue interfacing component and/or a pharmaceutical agent (e.g., for delivery of the active pharmaceutical agent to a location internal of the subject). In some cases, upon contact of the tissue with the tissue engaging surface of the article, the self-righting article may be configured to release one or more tissue interfacing components. In some cases, the tissue interfacing component is associated with a self-actuating component. For example, the self-righting article may comprise a self-actuating component configured, upon exposure to a fluid, to release the tissue interfacing component from the self-righting article. In some cases, the tissue interfacing component may comprise and/or be associated with the pharmaceutical agent (e.g., for delivery to a location internal to a subject).

Self-righting systems and related components and methods

Self-righting articles, such as self-righting capsules for administration to a subject, are generally provided. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may be configured such that the article may orient itself relative to a surface (e.g., a surface of a tissue of a subject). The self-righting articles described herein may comprise one or more tissue engaging surfaces configured to engage (e.g., interface with, inject into, anchor) with a surface (e.g., a surface of a tissue of a subject). In some embodiments, the self-righting article may have a particular shape and/or distribution of density (or mass) which, for example, enables the self-righting behavior of the article. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may comprise a tissue interfacing component and/or a pharmaceutical agent (e.g., for delivery of the active pharmaceutical agent to a location internal of the subject) such as a liquid pharmaceutical agent. In some cases, upon contact of the tissue with the tissue engaging surface of the article, the self-righting article may be configured to release one or more tissue interfacing components. In some cases, the tissue interfacing component is associated with a self-actuating component. For example, the self-righting article may comprise a self-actuating component configured, upon exposure to a fluid, to release the tissue interfacing component from the self-righting article.

Systems and methods for liquid injection

Self-righting articles, such as self-righting capsules for administration to a subject, are generally provided. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may be configured such that the article may orient itself relative to a surface. The self-righting articles described herein may comprise one or more tissue engaging surfaces configured to engage with a surface. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may have a particular shape and/or distribution of density (or mass) which, for example, enables the self-righting behavior of the article. In some embodiments, the self-righting article may comprise a tissue interfacing component and/or a pharmaceutical agent (e.g., for delivery of the active pharmaceutical agent to a location internal of the subject). In some cases, upon contact of the tissue with the tissue engaging surface of the article, the self-righting article may be configured to release one or more tissue interfacing components.

Methods of manufacturing tissue interfacing components, such as solid needles comprising one or more therapeutic agents, are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method for manufacturing a tissue interfacing component comprises compressing a granular therapeutic agent within a mold cavity of a mold to form a solid tissue interfacing component. The mold cavity may define an elongated shape extending along a longitudinal axis from an opening of the mold cavity to a distal end of the mold cavity, and the granular therapeutic agent may be compressed by moving a mold punch along the longitudinal axis towards the distal end. After compressing the granular therapeutic agent to form the solid tissue interfacing component, the tissue interfacing component may be removed from the mold and subsequently inserted into tissue to deliver the therapeutic agent to a subject.

Methods for manufacturing tissue interfacing components

The invention relates to an injection device for injecting a liquid drug. The injection device comprises a housing assembly supporting a non-removable cartridge having an interior chamber containing the liquid drug to be injected and a reusable needle cannula connected to the cartridge. A needle shield assembly provided with a cleaning chamber containing a volume of a cleaning agent for cleaning at least the distal tip of the needle cannula between subsequent injections is further provided. The needle shield assembly is axially movable in a proximal direction in relation to the housing assembly from a first position to a second position upon rotation of at least a part of the needle shield assembly, wherein the first position is a position in which the distal tip of the needle cannula is located inside the cleaning chamber thereby cleansing the distal tip of the needle cannula, and the second position is a position in which the distal tip of the needle cannula is located outside and distal to the cleaning chamber for equalizing the pressure in the cartridge.

The invention relates to a prefilled injection pen for apportioning multiple set doses of a liquid drug. The injection pen comprises a housing assembly with a removable cap rotatable coupled to the housing assembly such that the user has to rotate the removable cap upon mounting and dismounting the removable cap. Rotation of the removable cap initiates a process in which the proximal end of a needle cannula is first inserted into a cartridge permanently embedded in the housing assembly and thereafter moves the cartridge proximally to thereby pump a predetermined amount of the preservative containing liquid drug from the cartridge and into a cleaning chamber carried by an axially movable shield. The needle cannula is mounted in a needle hub which is arranged to follow rotation of the removable cap and guided helically in relation to the housing assembly such that the needle hub is moved proximally upon rotation of the removable cap. Further, the axially movable shield is operated by the needle hub to follow proximal movement of the needle hub such that the distal tip of the needle cannula is maintained inside the cleaning chamber upon axil movement of the needle hub and the needle cannula.

The invention relates to a pre-filled injection device for apportioning set dose of a liquid drug. The housing of the pre-filled injection device internally supports a non-replaceable cartridge () having an hollow interior containing a liquid preservative containing drug and externally supporting a removable protective cap (). The piston rod drive system of the injection device comprises a piston rod abutting a plunger provided inside the cartridge. A needle cannula () having a distal part with a distal tip and an opposite proximal part and a lumen there between is insertable into the cartridge. A telescopically movable () shield movable from an extended position covering at least the distal tip of the needle cannula to a retracted position exposing at least the distal tip of the needle cannula is further provided. The telescopically movable shield carries a cleaning chamber () able to contain a quantum of the liquid preservative containing drug for cleaning at least the distal tip of the needle cannula between subsequent injections. The quantum of the liquid preservative containing drug contained in the hollow interior of the cartridge is transferred to the cleaning chamber through the lumen of the needle cannula by moving the cartridge axially in relation to the plunger by use of a transfer assembly.

The invention relates to a pre-filled injection device for apportioning a plurality of set doses of a liquid drug comprising. The housing of the injection device supports a non-replaceable cartridge containing the liquid drug. The cartridge is e.g. secured in a cartridge-holder being a part of the housing. A needle assembly comprising a needle cannula secured in a hub is slidable mounted to slide into contact with the cartridge. The tip of the needle cannula is covered by a telescopically movable shield movable from an extended position to a retracted position. The telescopically movable shield supports a cleaning chamber containing a cleaning solvent for cleaning at least the distal tip of the needle cannula between subsequent injections. The distal end of the housing supports a removable protective cap and the telescopically movable shield is guided relatively to the housing and coupled to the protective cap to follow movement of the protective cap.

A drug delivery device is provided comprising a housing having an exterior surface, a drug-filled reservoir with an outlet, drug expelling means, and a flexible sheet. On the flexible sheet is formed or mounted input means adapted to be actuated corresponding to an event indicative of drug being expelled, a display adapted to display a time parameter, a processor, and an energy source. The processor is adapted to, based on input from the detection means, control the display to display a time parameter related to the time the event was detected, and the flexible sheet is attached at least in part to the outer surface of the housing.

A drug mixing and expelling device () for mixing a drug with a liquid, thereby forming a reconstituted liquid drug. The device comprises a reservoir () containing a liquid, a vial () containing a drug, a vial, means () for establishing a fluid connection between the reservoir and a vial positioned in the vial adapter (), means () for forcing the liquid from the reservoir to a vial, and means () for activating said forcing means during establishment of the fluid connection between the reservoir and the vial.
