Apparatus for producing a dorsiflexion of the foot of a patient comprises a combined sensing and stimulation electrode device having neurosense and stimulation electrode means capable of sensing a nerve signal from a peripheral nerve and stimulating peripheral motor nerve fibers. The neurosense and stimulation electrode means are implantable above the knee of a patient. Means for receiving and processing the sensed nerve signals are provided to identify a signal indicative of the timing of hell strike and heel lift of the patient and for producing a control signal in response thereto. Means for operating said neurosense and stimulation electrode means in response to the control signal to produce stimulation of the peripheral motor nerve fibers are also provided.

Methods and implantable systems for neural sensing and nerve stimulation

A mounting for fixing a transmitter or receiver to a surface comprises a mounting pad and a transmitter or receiver housing, the mounting pad having a face for applying to the surface and an opposite face and being provided with a first mating component of a rotatable connection and the transmitter or receiver housing having a second cooperating mating component of the rotatable connection, whereby the two components are mateable to mount the transmitter or receiver housing rotatably on the opposite face of the mounting pad.

The invention relates to an implantable stimulator electrode for stimulation of nerves adapted to be surgically implanted around a nerve bundle, said stimulator comprising one or more electrode means which, when implanted around said nerve bundle, surrounds the nerve bundle totally or partly. Electrode means and electronic circuit means are coupled to and powered by one or more receiving coils mounted on the stimulator housing. One advantage of the invention is that the electrode, when implanted, acts as a remote addressable maintenance free unit.
