An irradiation device for insertion into an orifice of the body for providing photodynamic therapy or diagnosis comprises: a housingadapted to be fully inserted and secured in the orifice, the housingenclosing an LED lamp systemand a power source, for powering the LED lamp system, wherein the device is independently operational while located within the orifice.

An irradiation device for insertion into an orifice of the body to provide photodynamic therapy comprises: a housing moulded from a resilient material and adapted to be fully inserted and secured in the orifice, the housing enclosing an LED lamp systemand a power sourcefor powering the LED lamp system; wherein the device is independently operational while located in the orifice; characterized in that: the housing comprises a first housing partfor holding the power sourceand a second housing partfor holding the LED lamp system, the first and second housing partsbeing separable and being preferably formed separately from the LED lamp system; and in that the first housing partconsists of a chamberfor holding the power sourceand an openinginto the chamberis provided through a resilient opening part, wherein the chamberis closed when the first housing partis joined to the second housing part
