Systems and methods for detecting faulty elements in an active planar antenna array of an extremely high frequency (EHF) wireless communication device. A planar antenna array having a matrix of dual-polarization modulated scattering probes is disposed within a near-field region of the antenna under test (AUT). Electromagnetic energy received from the AUT is converted to a complex electrical signal that is modulated by an electrical modulation signal and radiated as a scattering signal. The resulting electromagnetic scattering signal, received and converted to an electrical signal by another antenna, is used in a holographic image reconstruction operation via a backward-propagation transformation to reconstruct the signal spectrum radiated from the surface of the AUT. A comparison of this reconstructed signal spectrum with a reference signal spectrum radiated from the surface of a known good antenna array enables detection of faulty antenna elements within the AUT.

Methods and systems for a baseband cross-bar may comprise receiving one or more radio frequency (RF) signals in a wireless communication device via antennas coupled to a plurality of receiver paths in the wireless device. The received RF signals may be converted to baseband frequencies. One or more of the down-converted signals may be coupled to receiver paths utilizing a baseband cross-bar. The baseband cross-bar may comprise a plurality of switches, which may comprise CMOS transistors. In-phase and quadrature signals may be processed in the one or more of the plurality of receiver paths. The one or more RF signals comprise cellular signals and/or global navigation satellite signals. A single-ended received RF signal may be converted to a differential signal in one or more of the plurality of receiver paths. The baseband cross-bar may be controlled utilizing a reduced instruction set computing (RISC) processor.

Embodiments provide improved systems and methods of gain control and calibration for wireless transmitters. In particular, embodiments allow linear gain control over the entire transmitter gain control range, independent of temperature/process variations. Embodiments require very low power consumption compared to existing approaches. Embodiments may also be used for gain control calibration during production time, thereby substantially reducing production calibration time and cost.

The first point in the analog front-end may be an input or an output of a down-conversion mixer. The second point in the digital processing module may be an output of an analog-to-digital converter or an output of a channel selection filter. The communication device may control, utilizing the first signal strength indication(s) and the second signal strength indication(s), a gain of one or more components of the communication device.

A system for controlling amplifier power is provided. The system includes a voltage envelope detector receiving a voltage signal and generating an attenuated voltage envelope signal. A current envelope detector receives a current signal and generates an attenuated current envelope signal. A controller receives power level data and generates attenuation control data for the voltage envelope signal and the current envelope signal. A detector receives the voltage envelope signal and the current envelope signal and generates a control signal based on the greater of the voltage envelope signal and the current envelope signal. A power amplifier level controller receives the control signal and generates a power amplifier level control signal.

A buffer system stores a second order intermodulation product correction factor. A divider receives the cross-covariance value, the auto-covariance value and the second order intermodulation product correction factor and generates a running average second order intermodulation product correction factor.

A supply voltage controlled power amplifier includes a power amplifier, a closed power control loop configured to generate a power control signal, and a voltage regulator coupled to the power control loop, the voltage regulator including a first regulator stage, a second regulator stage, and a peak detector, wherein an output of the second regulator stage is applied as a feedback signal to the first regulator stage and wherein an output of the first regulator stage is decreased to a level consistent with an output of the power amplifier and an additional operating buffer amount.

A system for processing a signal is provided. The system includes a differential amplifier receiving a radio-frequency input signal at a first differential input. A rectifying device such as a transistor has a control terminal that is coupled to an output of the differential amplifier and an output that is coupled to a second differential input of the differential amplifier. The second differential input of the differential amplifier receives a low frequency feedback signal from the output of the rectifying device, such as by damping the frequency response at the output of the rectifying device using a capacitor and a current source coupled to the output of the rectifying device.

An internal calibration system for a radio frequency (RF) transmitter comprises a digital processing element to generate within a radio frequency (RF) transmitter test points at which an output of the RF transmitter is measured, an RF detector to measure the radio frequency output of the RF transmitter at the test points, the digital processing element also determining transmitter impairments by analyzing the measured radio frequency output, and compensation circuitry to compensate the RF transmitter for the measured impairments.
