Facial tissue box

A paperboard tissue box having a decahedral prismatic configuration which may be rapidly fabricated using available high speed machinery providing an attractive appearance while retaining high strength is disclosed. The outer surface of the tissue box of the present invention is a decahedron having two parallel octagonal faces linked by eight rectangular lateral faces extending between the edges of the octagon and generally being disposed at right angles to the octagonal faces in the erected carton, each of the ten faces being formable by folding a unitary blank having impressed fold lines defining regions in the blank which become panels in the erected box. The panels defining the first octagonal face are formed from a single unitary octagonal region in the blank which is hingedly connected along one edge to a rectangular region while an opposing edge of the rectangular region is hingedly connected to another octagonal region which upon erection forms the other octagonal end panel defining the other octagonal face. When forming a horizontal tissue box, one of the panels extending between the two octagonal end panels will be the top panel of the carton and includes a removable oval region defined centrally therein by lines of weakness such as perforations to form an opening for removal of tissue contained in the box. Alternatively, when forming a vertical facial tissue box, one of the octagonal end panels will include an opening for gaining access to the facial tissues therein.

Decahedral tissue carton

A carton is disclosed having a reclosable pour spout formed in a top panel thereof. The pour spout being formed by cooperating portions of an upper minor flap, an exterior top panel and an interior top panel which cooperate to form the top panel of the carton. A portion of the interior top panel forming a central closure pane is formed by inside and outside cut scores formed in the interior top panel defining a ply separation region therebetween which extends from a lift tab to a hinge line formed in the interior top panel. The exterior top panel includes a central closure pane defined by lines of perforation which extend from the lift tab to a hinge line formed in the exterior top panel which overlies the hinge line formed in the interior top panel, such that upon the application of an opening force to the lift tab, ply separation occurs in the ply separation region of the interior top panel which consequently forms a stop lip in the interior top panel and a stop tab on the central closure pane which when reclosed contacts the stop lip and prevents the central closure pane from being inserted into an interior of the carton.

Top panel spout carton

A blank cutting technique in a process for manufacturing containers such as paperboard cups, canisters and cartons provides a flaired edge which, in one embodiment, forms a precurl to facilitate the formation of a completed brim curl and in another embodiment, is used to provide a flaired edge on a lid flap of a carton. In the latter case, the flaired edge which is created assists in insertion of the lid flap into the carton opening and creates an improved seal. In the blank cutting technique, stock material is positioned on a die cutting bed across a stepped portion. The stock material is cut along a cutting line offset from and substantially parallel to the stepped portion and against a lower surface of the die cutting bed defined by the stepped portion during the cutting operation, whereby the flaired edge is formed.

Containers and blanks with a curled edge and method of making same

A tear strip is formed in a paperboard container blank by scoring a line of weakness on each of the opposite surfaces. The lines are offset from each other to form between them an area where the piles are easily separated. One or both lines are formed by impressing the blank with a diamond pattern knurling tool.

Method of forming a ply separation region in a paperboard blank

A paperboard carton blank is disclosed which includes first and second panels having side walls connected thereto by scored fold lines formed between a respective side wall and a respective edge the panel, with one of the side walls of the first panel and one of the side walls of the second panel being congruent and at least one predetermined edge of the second panel being devoid of a side wall. A sealing flap is provided which extends a predetermined distance from a predetermined edge of one of the side walls of the first panel with the predetermined edge of the side wall being that edge which extends adjacent to the predetermined edge of the second panel of a carton formed from the blank. An opening means is also provided which is defined by the predetermined edge of the second panel and regions of weakness formed in the second panel which extend from the predetermined edge of the second panel for permitting access to the inside of the formed carton. The opening means includes an opening force receiving means defined by the regions of weakness, the predetermined edge of the second panel and a line of weakness which extends between the regions of weakness substantially parallel to and spaced a predetermined distance greater than or equal to the predetermined distance of the sealing flap from the predetermined edge of the second panel. Once opened, the carton formed from the above blank is capable of reclosure to form a vent opening which permits steam to escape.

A paperboard carton blank including a first panel having side walls connected thereto by scored fold lines formed between a respective one of the side walls and a respective edge of the first panel is disclosed. A second panel is provided having a side wall connected thereto by a scored fold line formed between the side wall and an edge of the second panel. A seal flap is provided and extends a predetermined distance from a predetermined edge of one of the side walls of the first panel, the predetermined edge of the side wall being that edge which extends adjacent to a predetermined edge of the second panel of a carton formed from the blank. The blank also includes opposing end panels connected to each of the side walls and the first and second panels with each of the end walls having a die cut edge. A predetermined region of each of the end panels is skived adjacent to the die cut edge in order to reduce the resultant thickness of the end panels when sealed and a cover flap is provided to overlie the end panels of the sealed carton. An opening feature defined by the predetermined edge of the second panel and regions of weakness formed in the second panel extending from the predetermined edge of the second panel for permitting access to the inside of a carton formed from the blank is also provided with the regions of weakness being formed of a pair of substantially parallel lines of weakness with at least one of lines of weakness being a knurled line of weakness. The above paperboard blank being used to form a carton of a high barrier carton construction for containing a product placed therein wherein no die cut edges are exposed within the interior of the carton and the resultant carton exhibits a smooth continuous end cover.

Carton having a barrier construction and method of making the same

A paperboard carton is disclosed which is constructed from a paperboard blank including a first panel having side walls connected thereto by scored fold lines formed between a respective side wall and a respective edge of the first panel. A second panel is provided having side walls connected thereto by scored fold lines formed between a respective side wall and a respective edge of the second panel with one of the side walls of the first panel and one of the side walls of the second panel being congruent. The second panel further includes an opening device formed therein for allowing access to the interior of a formed carton. This opening device includes a tab extending from an edge of the second panel, at least one through cut segment extending from an edge of the tab into the second panel of the blank and terminating at a termination point, at least one partially cut line of weakness formed in the second panel and at least one perforated line of weakness formed in the second panel and extending substantially parallel to the partially cut line of weakness, with the partially cut line of weakness having a portion which intersects the through cut segment extending from the edge of the tab at the termination point and the perforated line of weakness is colinear with the through cut segment and spaced a predetermined distance from the termination point of the through cut segment.

A carton and blank for forming the same are disclosed and includes a bottom panel, a top panel, side walls extending substantially perpendicularly away from the bottom panel toward the top panel with the side walls being connected to the bottom panel about a periphery thereof, and overlapping side walls extending substantially perpendicularly away from the top panel toward the bottom panel from predetermined peripheral edges of the top panel. An opening device is formed in the top panel for permitting access to an interior of the carton with the opening device including an opening force receiving mechanism in the form of a lifting tab is integrally formed in one of the overlapping side walls of the top panel for providing an initiation point for the opening device. Initial regions of weakness formed in the top panel extending from the lifting tab to respective peripheral edges of the top panel and continued regions of weakness are provided which extend from the initial regions of weakness substantially parallel to and including the respective peripheral edges of the top panel and extend toward a peripheral edge of the top panel which opposes the lifting tab wherein as previously mentioned, the continued regions of weakness include an inner partially cut score line of weakness and an outer perforated through cut line of weakness with the inner and outer lines of weakness extending substantialy parallel to one another such that a ply-separation occurs in the region between the respective lines of weakness when an opening force is applied to the lifting tab by the consumer. A device for facilitating the manipulation of the lifting tab is also disclosed.

Microwave carton and blank for forming the same

A paperboard carton blank including a first panel having side walls connected thereto by scored fold lines formed between a respective one of the side walls and a respective edge of the first panel is disclosed. A second panel is provided having a side wall connected thereto by a scored fold line formed between the side wall and an edge of the second panel. A seal flap is provided and extends a predetermined distance from a predetermined edge of one of the side walls of the first panel, the predetermined edge of the side wall being that edge which extends adjacent to a predetermined edge of the second panel of a carton formed from the blank. The blank also includes opposing end panels connected to each of the side walls and the first and second panels with each of the end walls having at least one die cut edge. A predetermined portion of at least one of the end panels is skived and overfolded along a fold line adjacent to the die cut edge such that no die cut edge is exposed within the carton formed of the blank. An opening feature defined by the predetermined edge of the second panel and regions of weakness formed in the second panel extending from the predetermined edge of the second panel for permitting access to the inside of a carton formed from the blank is also provided with the regions of weakness being formed of a pair of substantially parallel lines of weakness with at least one of lines of weakness being a knurled line of weakness. The above paperboard being used to form a carton of a high barrier carton construction for containing a product placed therein wherein not die cut edges are exposed within the interior of the carton.

A disposable paperboard carton formed from an integral paperboard blank, has an improved opening feature, the improved opening feature comprised of a side wall of the carton having an outer layer of paperboard having a pull type closure tab which allows for the opening of the carton and dispensing of a contained product and which allows reclosure of the carton by inserting a portion of the tab in a cutout slot for storing the contents for further use, and an inner layer of paperboard having a T-shaped cutout for the pour spout. The pour spout size to be selected in accordance with the size of the product to be contained in the carton, with the closure tab being of a constant size and configuration. The closure tab being arranged on the outer layer so as to overlay the cutout formed in the inner layer.

Reclosable carton with horizontal side pour spout

A carton blank and carton having a reclosable tear open pour spout for dispensing contents of the carton is provided. The carton includes a plurality of side walls hingedly connected to one another by way of fold lines, a top wall and a bottom wall, with one of the side walls including an outer layer and an inner layer adhesively secured thereto. A discharge opening is formed in the inner layer, and a closure flap is integrally formed in the outer layer for overlying the discharge opening. A lift tab is also integrally formed in the outer layer and extends from the closure flap for opening the closure flap, with a tear strip also being integrally formed in the outer layer for releasing the lift tab to allow the consumer ready access to the lift tab to open the carton. The inner layer includes an adhesive area formed by a pair of adhesive regions which extend substantially parallel to the fold line between the side walls while an area, devoid of adhesive, which extends from the discharge opening and between the adhesive regions is maintained.

Paperboard carton having a pour spout and blank for forming the same

A paperboard carton blank consisting of a first panel having side walls connected thereto by scored fold lines formed between a respective side wall and a respective edge of the first panel is provided. The blank further includes a second panel having side walls connected thereto by scored fold lines formed between a respective side wall and a respective edge of the second panel with one of the side walls of the first panel and one of the side walls of the second panel being congruent. The second panel additionally includes a region of weakness formed therein for allowing access to the interior of a formed carton. This region of weakness includes a tab extending from the second panel, at least one uncut line of weakness formed in the second panel and at least one cut line of weakness substantially parallel to the uncut line of weakness and formed in the second panel. The carton blank of this type is then used to form a paperboard carton having an opening feature which allows ready access to the contents of the carton. The opening feature preferably includes a pair of regions of weakness which cooperate to form an opening flap when desired. Each pair of regions of weakness include one uncut line of weakness and one cut line of weakness with the uncut lines being formed between the cut lines with each being formed in the external surface of the carton wall.

Carton having an opening feature and a carton blank

A paperboard carton constructed from an integral paperboard blank has an improved pull tab tear strip opening. The carton contains at least two layers of paperboard in the area where the pull tab tear strip opening feature is located. The pull tab tear strip is an integral part of the outer layer. The pull tab tear strip is bounded along one elongate side by a cut line of weakness having a plurality of through cuts and along a second elongate side by a partial cut score line which facilitates ply separation of the outer panel adjacent this side during carton opening.
