The technology described herein is directed towards a capacitor with a modified design (relative to standard capacitors), in which a first conductor is coupled to a second conductor via a distributed array of conducting interconnects through a dielectric that separates the conductors. The array of interconnects can be geometrically distributed. The array of conducting interconnects, not present in standard capacitors, results in capacitors with larger self-resonant frequency, e.g., having a substantially stable capacitance over a range of high radio frequencies, e.g., from one gigahertz to twenty gigahertz. This further provides an improved quality factor. The improvements resulting from the array of interconnects, facilitates more optimal surface current density. The modified capacitor provides benefits in various circuits, e.g., in a tuning element as part of an impedance matching network, in a millimeter wave frequency phase shifter for antenna elements, and so on.

The technology described herein is directed towards a multiband unit cell that is part of a reflective surface that can reflect different specific frequencies of impinging electromagnetic waves. The unit cells can have different phase profiles to facilitate beam steering and/or beam splitting functionality, independently for each specific frequency. The multiband unit cell can be a dual-band unit cell based on a straightforward unit-cell design, e.g., using diagonally arranged ring resonators as sub-cells of a supercell. Alternative design variations are also described to accommodate multi-frequency (greater than two frequency) applications. In one example implementation, the metasurface is constructed as a low-profile dual-band reflective surface with beam-steering and/or beam-splitting capabilities, e.g., utilizing only a single unit cell metal layer above a substrate. This enables precise control and manipulation of an antenna's radiation pattern, providing enhanced coverage for both frequency bands while keeping the fabrication/manufacturing costs relatively low.

The disclosed systems, structures, and methods are directed to antennas for integration with a display structure which has a plurality of pixels arranged in pixel rows with an inter-pixel spacing, and a feeding line located in the inter-pixel spacing. The display structure also has an antenna which comprises a slotted waveguide and a substrate. The slotted waveguide is located in the inter-pixel spacing and defines a plurality of slots configured to radiate electromagnetic waves. The substrate is attached to the slotted waveguide and is located between the feeding line and the slotted waveguide. The antenna may also include a plurality of slotted waveguides superposing on different feeding lines of the display structure.

Antenna for integration with a display

The disclosed structures and methods are directed to antenna systems configured to transmit and receive a wireless signal in and from different directions. A switchable lens antenna has excitation ports radiating radio-frequency (RF) wave into a parallel-plate waveguide structure, and a frequency selective structure (FSS). The antenna presented herein is configured to operate in two modes depending on an initial steering angle of the RF wave propagating in the parallel-plate waveguide structure. When the initial steering angle is about or less than a threshold steering angle, FSS is OFF due to its stubs being electrically disconnected from the parallel-plate waveguide structure. When the initial steering angle is higher than the threshold, FSS is ON with stubs being electrically connected to the parallel-plate waveguide structure. When ON, FSS provides phase variance to the RF wave propagating in the parallel-plate waveguide structure and increases steering angle of the RF wave.

The disclosed systems, structures, and methods are directed to a mm-Wave communication structure employing a first transmission structure employing a first ring transition structure followed by a first ground structure and a second ground structure configured to carry a ground signal, a second transmission structure employing a second ring transition structure followed by a third ground structure and a fourth ground structure configured to carry the ground signal, a third transmission structure configured to carry a mm-Wave signal, wherein the third transmission structure begins at the center of the first ring transition structure and the second ring transition structure and the third transmission structure is coplanar with the second transmission structure, and a fourth transmission structure configured to operatively couple an IC and the first transmission layer, the second transmission layer, and the third transmission structure.

A Printed Circuit Board (PCB) comprising various integral components and method of manufacture are provided. The PCB includes a Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW), integrated waveguide antennas disposed above the SIW, apertures formed in SIW for coupling with the waveguide antennas, a transmission line routed above the SIW and using the SIW as a ground plane thereof, and further antennas, integrated into the PCB and disposed above and coupled to the transmission line. The SIW and the transmission line may be branched structures for feeding corresponding arrays of waveguide antennas and further antennas. Coplanar waveguides may also be integrated into the PCB and coupled to the SIW and the transmission line via integral impedance matching structures. PCB feature re-use and component interleaving may provide for a desirable and manufacturable PCB structure.

A variable capacitance and control system used in a compensative manner to improve efficiency in power amplifier arrangements arranged to receive a power input which is voltage-modulated responsive to at least one control signal representative of the data signal. Also included are methods and software for controlling said power amplifier arrangements including the variable capacitance and control system. The data input to the power amplifier is pre-distorted and the resulting power amplification is substantially linear. The arrangement may be used in wireless base station transmitters, for example. Improved data transmission services are also provided which make use of such power amplifiers.
