An applicator for drywall mastic can alternatively cover flat drywall joints, outside corner drywall joints, or simultaneously both outside corners on a stub drywall, all with little or no manual adjustment of the applicator. A spring biased lever is pivotally mounted on each side of the applicator. Normally, the bias extends a projection on the lever which rides over the edge of the outside corner in order to guide and direct the applicator as it moves along a corner wall. A circumferential flange on a wheel cooperates with the projection to give greater stability. If the applicator is pressed against a flat wall, the projection is pushed back against the bias of the spring so that the projection has no effect.

Outside corner mastic applicator

A mastic applicator includes a guide mechanism mounted to the applicator so that the applicator is maintained in alignment with outside corners during application of mastic. The guide mechanism includes a pair of corner guides which have guide surfaces aligned with the side edges of the outlet from which the mastic flows. The corner guides are spring mounted so that they retract when they are not positioned at a corner, thereby allowing the applicator to be used on both sides of a corner, as well as on flat joints, without adjustment to the applicator. The mechanism also includes a pair of stub guides located on the applicator surface. The stub guides can be slid into position to engage opposite outside corners of a stub wall for effective application of mastic between the outside corners.

Mastic applicator

A corner finisher spreads mastic on a joint formed at an inside corner of drywall. The drywall corner finisher is conventionally used with a plurality of alternative tools for supplying a plurality of coats of mastic in different thicknesses. Therefore, a quick disconnect coupler is provided to rapidly change the tools and yet to hold them so securely that there is almost no chance for an unwanted disconnect between the drywall corner finisher and one of the alternative tools for supplying mastic. The invention provides such a coupler in the form of a ball and socket behind a sliding locking plate having a key hole slot in it for receiving a ball on a mastic delivery device.

Corner finisher tool for applying mastic

A tool for applying mastic (mud) to drywalls during the installation thereof. The tool has a quick opening feature for cleaning or manually filling a cavity with mastic. The tool is pivotally connected on the end of a handle with a controlled friction. A double-edged blade shapes the mastic as it is applied to the wall. The blade may be reversed when one edge becomes nicked or otherwise unusable.

An improved corner finishing tool for applying mastic along a wall joint and having a container that defines a cavity open in two convergent and substantially perpendicular planes, said cavity being bordered by surfaces that converge peripherally of said cavity, said container means comprising a pair of rigid retainer plates joined together by a pair of spring loaded hinges or fasteners and biased to a position of resilient flex. A pair of lever arms pivotally secured to an edge portion of the retainer plates and pivotally joined together at one end are acted upon by leaf springs which engage the lever arms at selected positions relative to the pivotal connection for adjusting the resilient flex between the pair of retainer plates. Mastic material is fed into the cavity through a socket bracket that is mounted to one of the retainer plates to which there is also mounted an alignment wheel.

Improvements in corner finishing tools for applying mastic material along a wall joint and comprising an improved means for adjusting the resilient flex between integral sides of a mastic retainer plate; an improved retainer plate having elongated interior pockets formed directly in front of a pair of doctor blades to receive and store mastic material and to collect small foreign particles, and baffle plates to direct the flow of mastic material; and an improved means for supporting the tool including a pair of side rollers rotatably mounted peripherally of an interior mastic cavity.

A corner tool for applying mastic material to an external corner formed by two walls which come together at approximately 90.degree., said tool comprising a retainer for mastic material that defines a cavity open in two convergent and substantially perpendicular planes, including a pair of slotted screed plates that extend substantially perpendicular to each other and transverse relative to the external corner, and means for positioning the mastic retainer relative to the external corner to maintain the slotted plates in contact with the two walls forming the corner while positioning the cavity in open-spaced relationship to the walls.

Exterior corner tool

A corner finishing tool for applying mastic material along a wall joint comprising an angular retainer plate having a pair of integral sides resiliently joined at a corner, a pair of L-shaped rigid frame members secured thereto, one side and frame member being resiliently movable relative to the other side and frame member while together defining a cavity reservoir for mastic material, and a wheel having substantially conical side surfaces that converge to a center rim. The corner finishing tool also provides means for setting the L-shaped rigid frame members to a preset position under an adjustable resilient biasing force.
