The present invention relates to processes for reducing or eliminating the amount of hydrazine from a hydroxylamine-free base containing hydrazine by treating said hydroxylamine-free base with a scavenger agent, and to the hydroxylamine-free base thereby obtained, as well as to its use for producing microdispersions containing a hydroxamated polymer for use as a flocculant in the Bayer process.

Microdispersions of hydroxamated polymers and methods of making and using them

A method and composition for flocculation and separation of suspended solids from an industrial process stream containing suspended solids is provided. The method includes the steps of adding to the stream a water-in-oil-in-water emulsion polymer in an amount effective to flocculate the suspended solids and separating the flocculated solids therefrom. The composition is a water-in-oil-in-water emulsion of a water-soluble polymer in which the continuous phase is an aqueous solution of a water-soluble salt.

Water-in-oil-in-water emulsions of hydroxamated polymers and methods for using the same

Polymer compositions comprised of small, dry polyacrylamide particles may be dispersed into water at industrially useful rates to form aqueous compositions, by separating the particles from each other and bringing them into contact with a moving stream of water in the manner described herein. The resulting aqueous compositions may be used as a treating solution in diverse applications such as flocculants in water treating, papermaking, mining, oil field, and biotechnological separations.

Dispersal of polyacrylamides

A process is disclosed for the formation of highly anionic hydroxamic acid polymers whereby (meth) acrylic acid polymers are esterified in aqueous solution to poly (meth) acrylates. The resultant polymers are then reacted with an hydroxylamine to produce hydroxamated (meth) acrylic acid containing polymers. The esterified polymers, their hydroxamated derivatives and their use to flocculate Bayer Process streams are also disclosed.

Method of making polymers containing hydroxamate functional groups

A composition comprising a blend of an inverse emulsion of a hydroxamated polymer and a second inverse emulsion of a second polymer selected from the group consisting of alkali metal (meth)acrylate homopolymers, ammonium (meth)acrylate homopolymers, and copolymers of the (meth)acrylates with (alk)acrylamides, wherein the molar ratio of hydroxamated polymer to said second polymer in the emulsion is within the range of about 99:1 to 15:85 when the second polymer is an alkali metal (meth)acrylate homopolymer or copolymer and is within the range of about 99:1 to 58:42 when said second polymer is an ammonium (meth)acrylate homopolymer or copolymer. Processes for removing suspended solids from Bayer alumina process streams using these compositions are also provided.
