A printer is configured with an optical sensor that enables dashes in a test pattern formed with clear drops on a mirror-like surface to be detected and their positions identified. The optical sensor includes a louver positioned adjacent to a light source to limit and collimate an amount of light emitted by the light source onto each portion of the test pattern. The limiting of the light facilitates the processing of the image data generated by a plurality of photodevices that receive the specular light reflections from the mirror-like substrate and the test pattern to identify the positions of the dashes. These identified positions are compared to expected positions to identify misalignment distances that can be used to adjust ejector head alignment and timing of the firing signals to the ejector head that ejects clear drops.

Visual uniformity adjustment procedure using areas of different screen geometries and frequencies

This is a system to improve final xerographic image by providing uniformity in both pre-imaged and imaged photoconductive drums or belts. An ESV is placed after the exposure imaging station so that it can measure the voltage on the photoreceptor (PR) belt or drum obtaining a periodic photoreceptor signature. This signature is communicated to a controller and stored therein. After both pre-imaged and imaged signatures are obtained, the controller compensates for these signatures to all imaging runs thereafter to ensure uniform voltage and thereby uniform final images.

Closed loop charge control to minimize low frequency charge non-uniformity

Disclosed is a printing apparatus and method to correct for image non-uniformities. The printing apparatus comprises a photoreceptor (P/R) belt charging device positioned to charge the P/R belt after an image is transferred to a media sheet. Embodiments herein comprise a charging station adjacent a photoreceptor. The charging station is adapted to charge the document zone of the photoreceptor with a first negative voltage and to charge the inter-document zone of the photoreceptor with a second negative voltage that is more negative than the first negative voltage. The second more negative voltage reduces the amount of positive charges trapped within layers of the inter-document zone of the photoreceptor. Thus, when the charging station increases the size of the document zone from a smaller size associated with a smaller printing medium to a larger size associated with a larger printing medium, by reducing the positive charges from being trapped within layers of the inter-document zone of the photoreceptor, ghosting is reduced on the larger printing medium.

Packaging apparatus is provided for packaging a flexible photoconductive belt loop to prevent light from shocking the flexible photoconductive belt loop during shipping and during loading into an image reproduction machine. The cut sheet has a length Lincluding a first end, a second end, and (iv) at least one loop tacking aperture formed through a second end portion thereof. The packaging apparatus also includes a first adhesive tape member applied over the second end portion, through the at least one loop tacking aperture, and onto a first end portion. The packaging apparatus further includes a plurality of packaging cores, and a second adhesive tape member applied over the second end and over a portion of the main body portion.

Packaging apparatus for wrapping and folding flexible photoreceptor belts

A packaging machine and method are provided for wrapping, folding and taping a flexible photoconductive belt loop to prevent light from shocking such photoconductive belt loop during shipping and during loading into a machine. The packaging machine for the method includes mandrels holding cylindrical cores for supporting, tensioning and folding the flexible photoconductive belt loop; devices for feeding a light occluding and protective flexible sheet over the flexible photoconductive belt loop to form a belt and sheet assembly; an aperture former for forming a loop tacking aperture through a loop tacking portion of one end of the light occluding and protective flexible sheet; folding and end-tucking mechanisms for folding the belt and sheet assembly into a tightly folded pattern around the cylindrical cores; and first and second taping stations for applying an end pull tab tape, and a loop tacking tape over the loop tacking portion and through the loop tacking aperture onto a portion of the light occluding and protective flexible sheet underneath the loop tacking portion thereof.
