Various embodiments provide a method and apparatus for providing migration of cloud components across address domains without the overhead of sending traffic from prior sessions through an anchor. In particular, the networking control plane is decoupled from the packet forwarding data plane using a mobility enablement layer (MEL) that allows creating rules for forwarding elements (FEs) to forward traffic directed to an address within the proper address domain.

Method and apparatus for providing migration of cloud components across address domains

A capability is provided for determining a fraction of content item versions to cache for use in responding to requests for content items. The fraction of content item versions to cache is determined based on a popularity distribution of the content item versions and cost model information associated with the content item versions. The cost model information may include information indicative of a cost of storing one of the content item versions and at least one of a cost of transcoding one of the content item versions or a cost of transferring one of the content item versions. The fraction of content item versions to cache may be determined based a skewness factor of the popularity distribution of the content item versions.

The distributed message handling system is created by using session states to represent the plurality of session contexts in the message handling system. The session states are flat representations of the session context which completely describe the session. Utilizing the session states to handle system message requests allows the message handling system to distribute the handling of the message requests to a plurality of state machines. Advantageously, the distributed messaging system allows the message handling system to dynamically allocate message handling resources to application instances based on demand. Such dynamic allocation allows providers to efficiently allocate resources to meet demand while meeting application execution demands.

A capability is provided for virtualizing control plane functions of a wireless core packet network (WCPN). A forwarding element (FE) is configured to provide a set of data plane functions of the WCPN. A virtual control element (VCE) is configured to provide a set of control plane functions of the WCPN. The VCE includes a set of virtual machines (VMs) where at least one of the VMs is configured to detect a condition associated with a tunnel, for a wireless terminal (WT), between the FE and a wireless access device (WAD) configured to serve the WT, and propagate, toward the FE, a message comprising a tunnel command configured to instruct the FE to at least one of install, remove, or modify a tunnel rule associated with the tunnel between the FE and the WAD. The tunnel enables the WT to access a packet data network (PDN).

Virtualization of control plane functions of a wireless core packet network

Methods and apparatus are provided for identifying participants in a peer-to-peer network, such as an Ares&#x2122; network. Peers are identified by sending a bootstrap request message to at least one peer; receiving a response from the at least one peer to the bootstrap request, wherein the response identifies one or more additional peers; and repeating the sending and receiving steps for the one or more additional peers until the bootstrap response satisfies one or more predefined criteria. The predefined criteria can be that the bootstrap response does not identify at least one new peer within a predefined period of time, or that the bootstrap response does not identify at least one new peer at all. The bootstrap requests are generally sent only to peers that have not been previously contacted. The bootstrap request message may comprise, for example, only one packet and requests that the recipient identify a predefined number of random peers. A list of identified peers can be presented to a user, for example, based on one or more demographic criteria.

A multi-layer peer-to-peer (P2P) capability is provided. A multi-layer P2P system includes a plurality of P2P networks associated with a plurality of hierarchical layers. For example, a first hierarchical layer may include a first P2P network including all peer nodes of the P2P system, and a second hierarchical layer may include a plurality of second P2P networks where the second P2P networks of the second hierarchical layer include respective subsets of the peer nodes of the first P2P network. A method of processing peer-to-peer requests is provided. The method may include; storing, at a network element, peer information in a database for each peer of a plurality of peers, the peer information indicating at least one ISP associated with the peer and the content contained by the peer, receiving a request for content from a requester, and sending a response to the content requester based on the ISP with which the requester is associated and the stored peer information.
