An optically variable security element contains a motif region, and has a main motif shape that is visible to a viewer in the motif region at at least a first viewing angle. The optically variable main motif includes substructures that are visible to the viewer. The substructures are sub-motifs that are visible to the viewer and have a sub-motif shape. The sub-motifs have the same sub-motif shape, and the sub-motif shape corresponds to the main motif shape.

An optically variable security element contains a motif region. An optically variable main motif has a contour that is visible to a viewer in the motif region at at least a first viewing angle, and the optically variable main motif includes substructures that are visible to the viewer. The visible substructures are visible along the contour of the main motif. The substructures are sub-motifs that are visible to the viewer, and each of the sub-motifs are provided with a contour.

An optically variable security element has a motif region including a plurality of differently oriented first facets and a plurality of differently oriented second facets arranged in the motif region. Each of the first and second facets defines a normal vector having a first orientation component and a second orientation component. The color impression of the at least one motif is determined by the first orientation components. The representation of the at least one motif is defined by the second orientation components. The first orientation components of the first facets and the second facets are different from one another.

A security element for manufacturing value documents has a structure including first and second motifs which change their appearance when the security element is tilted over a tilting angle range. The structure has first micro-elements, which are arranged with a first pattern and a first motif, and second micro-elements, which are arranged with a second pattern and a second motif. The first and second patterns are nested within each other on an areal region of the security element and have different visual appearances according to the tilting of the securing element.

An optically variable security element has a motif region. A plurality of differently oriented facets are arranged in the motif region. A pattern includes visible pattern elements is visible in the motif region to a viewer at least at a first viewing angle. The visible pattern elements are designed differently to portray a motif to the viewer. The motif is a three-dimensional motif. The pattern elements are designed differently such that they portray a perspective of the three-dimensional motif to the viewer.
