Techniques are provided that include receiving, by a set-top box (STB) and over a direct broadcast satellite (DBS) channel, an instructional media file; storing the instructional media file in a local database for future viewing; adding metadata about the instructional media file to an analytics engine; determining, by the analytics engine, a time to present the instructional media file to an end-user associated with the STB, wherein the determination is based on processing an associated profile of the end-user and the metadata about the instructional media file; transmitting a notification for delivery to the end-user, where the notification indicates that the instructional media file is ready to be presented; and presenting, by a local processor associated with the STB, the instructional media file. Various artificial intelligence and augmented reality aspects are created and implemented in the system.

Systems, devices and processes are described herein to improve the reliable delivery of content in a satellite system by facilitating the prediction of likely future signal interference. Specifically, the various embodiments provide a technique whereby a likelihood of future plant growth interfering with received signal strength at a satellite dish is determined. In one embodiment, the technique analyses one or more images of a plant in the vicinity of the satellite dish and from that image generates prediction of future growth of the plant over a future time period. From this prediction of future plant growth, a likelihood of future signal interference being caused by the plant can be determined.

Systems, electronic devices, and methods are directed to a self-adjustable heat spreader. A spring system may include one or more spring members and a contact surface adapted to contact a circuit board component. Each spring member may include a thermally conductive material. A thermal spreader plate may be coupled to the one or more spring members. The spring system and the thermal spreader plate may be configured to allow movement, with respect to the thermal spreader plate along multiple axes, of one or more portions of the one or more spring members proximate to the thermal spreader plate when the contact surface is pressed against the circuit board component and the spring system transitions from a first state to a compressed state. The contact surface and the spring system may be configured to transfer heat between the circuit board component and the thermal spreader plate.

A method of filtering a plurality of data items according to user input is presented. Each of the data items, such as media content files, is identified via a multiple-character identifier. In the method, a collection of individual characters is presented to a user for selection. A character sequence is received from the user, wherein the character sequence includes at least one character selection selected from the collection of individual characters. For each character selection in the sequence, more than one character from the collection is associated with the character selection. The data items are then filtered based on the associated characters corresponding to each character selection.

Systems, devices, and methods for filtering a plurality of data items according to user input are presented. Each of the data items, such as media content files, is identified via a multiple-character identifier. A collection of individual characters is presented to a user for selection. For each character selection in the sequence, more than one character from the collection is associated with the character selection. Various arrangements for outputting a customized video mosaic are presented. Based on received user input, it may be determined that a customized video mosaic is to be output for presentation. A plurality of television channels to be presented as part of the customized video mosaic may be determined. One or more tuners may be tuned based on the determined plurality of television channels to be presented. The plurality of television channels may be output for presentation to a presentation device. Each of these television channels may be presented by the presentation device as live video simultaneously as part of the customized video mosaic.

Aspects include providing a seamless transition between absolute and relative navigational schemes to allow for users to more efficiently make use of touch and position sensitive remote controls.
