System and method controlling connectivity within a device. A device may be coupled to a host device. In response to the coupling, low power logic (e.g., an embedded device) of the device may be coupled to the host device. The low power logic may perform enumeration with the host device using only power provided by the host device. The low power logic may also charge a battery of the device using power provided by the host device. Device circuitry of the device may provide a signal for coupling to the host device. In response, the device circuitry may be coupled to the host device and may perform device enumeration with the host device.

Adjusting current based on temperature. A change in temperature of a connection between a first device and a second device may be measured. The change in temperature may be performed while the first device provides current to the second device over the connection. If the change in temperature is above a threshold, the current being provided from the first device to the second device may be reduced. The change in temperature may be performed by the first device and/or the second device, e.g., by measuring the temperature of a connector of the connection.

Hub apparatus that supports multiple high speed devices and a super speed device. The hub apparatus may include at least one upstream port for coupling to a host device and at least one downstream port for coupling to at least one downstream device. The hub apparatus may further include an embedded device as well as an internal hub coupled to the upstream port, the embedded device, and the at least one downstream port. The internal hub may be configured to provide a connection between the host device and the embedded device at a first speed (e.g., USB high speed). However, when supported by the host device, the embedded device may communicate with the host device at a higher speed than the first speed (e.g., USB super speed), e.g., without using the internal hub.

The determination may be performed after coupling the charging device to a power source and to the mobile device. If the charging device is a faulty charging device, the mobile device may report a location of the faulty charging device over a network.

System and method for providing a high speed connection to a memory medium of a mobile device. The mobile device may be a mobile phone or other type of portable electronic device. The memory medium may be removable and/or may be flash memory, as desired. The mobile device may include a USB hub that provides a direct high speed connection between an external device and a memory medium of the mobile device. The USB hub may also provide a connection (possibly high speed) between the external device and the processor of the mobile device. The mobile device may also include a high speed connection between the processor of the mobile device and the memory medium.

A protocol may enable support of the USB 2.0 LPM (Link Power Management) Addendum by a ULPI PHY (Universal Serial Bus Transceiver Macrocell Low-Pin Interface Physical Layer Device), facilitating transmitting the reserved PID (Physical Interface Device) token, used in the LPM Extended Transaction, through a ULPI bus. Bits [] of a ULPI Tx Cmd (Transmit Command) byte may be reused, with the value of those bits being 4'b0 for a transmission (normally indicating a No PID transmission), by configuring the ULPI PHY to qualify the selected four Tx Cmd bits (bits [] of the Tx Cmd) with the Opmode code. The ULPI PHY may thereby interpret bits [] of the Tx Cmd byte based on the value of the Opmode, and may not transmit the Extended PID when the Opmode is set to 2&#x2032;b10, that is, when the Opmode is indicative of bit-stuffing and NRZI encoding being disabled, for example during a Chirp transmission. When the Opmode code is set to 2&#x2032;b0, indicative of normal bit-stuffing, and the Tx Cmd bits [] are set to 4&#x2032;b0 during a transmission (Tx Cmd bits[]=2&#x2032;b01), then the PHY may transmit the Extended PID, followed by the rest of the extended transaction onto a USB.

System and method for enumerating and/or enumerating a device. The device may be a USB portable device which adheres to a first standard, e.g., the USB specification, and may engage in enumeration with respect to a USB hub/USB host device. Where a battery included in the device is sufficiently low, the device may engage in low power enumeration, e.g., to begin charging the device using enumerated power. Low power enumeration may allow the device to enumerate even when the device is incapable of powering on. Additionally, or alternatively, the device may determine whether the hub/host device is capable of providing high power charging. If it is, the device may begin charging the battery of the device using power provided by the hub/host device at a high power level.

System and method for enumerating a USB device using low power

A system and method for protecting register write operations, especially register write operations performed in a USB PHY. A USB transmitter/receiver, operable to receive a register write command from a USB LINK device, may monitor the write sequence initiated by the register write command to determine if/when the register write sequence has been interrupted. In monitoring the register write sequence, the USB transmitter/receiver is operable to discard the register write command if a DIR signal issued by the USB transmitter/receiver is asserted during the register write sequence and/or if an STP signal received by the USB transmitter/receiver is asserted during the register write sequence, where STP may be part of a normal register write operation. The USB transmitter/receiver is further operable to allow the register write sequence to complete if the STP signal and the DIR signal are not asserted during a predetermined period of the register write sequence. The monitoring functions may be implemented in a finite state machine comprised in the USB transmitter/receiver.
