According to one embodiment, a beacon device is configured to provide power in the beacon device in response to a signal from a clock to enter a wake state from a sleep state. The beacon device is further configured to receive configuration parameters over the wireless network interfaces from a network device, monitor one or more of a beacon sensor or a user device over the wireless network interfaces according to the configuration parameters, transmit data over the network interfaces to the network device according to the configuration parameters, and monitor the clock for a signal to enter a sleep state. The beacon device is further configured to disrupt the power in the beacon device in response to the signal to enter the sleep state from the clock.

In one embodiment, a method includes: obtaining a power loss value for a cable that couples a device to a power source, where the power loss value is indicative of an amount of power lost through the cable during power transmission from the power source to the device; and determining, based at least in part on the power loss value for the cable, a power budget value indicative of an amount of power received by the device from the power source.

Dynamic power management

A wireless network can include one or more nodes distributed throughout a physical environment. The locations of client devices within the wireless network can be determined based on observing measurements of wireless signals exchanged between the nodes and the client devices. In some example embodiments, the capability of determining location information of client devices more accurately can be utilized for enhancing Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) functions. In an example embodiment, a phone call can be intelligently routed to where the user is located within the wireless network. In another example embodiment, the volume of a VoIP-enabled client device can be adjusted depending on the proximity of other users.

A satellite microphone assembly formed by a base housing a microphone and a volume control electronics and an outer ring coupled with the base and rotatable about the base. The outer ring includes a center aperture having an actuatable button to toggle mute/unmute of the microphone disposed therein. A rotational sensor is supported by the base and configured to detect a rotation of the outer ring and to output information about a direction and a degree of rotation of the outer ring to the volume control electronics, thereby causing a rotation of the outer ring to affect a volume of a speaker.

Disclosed is a system and method of a switchable, oscillating near-field and far-field antenna that may be used in access control systems. A controller is coupled to a transceiver, wherein the transceiver comprises an antenna module that includes both a near-field antenna and a far-field antenna. The near-field antenna is a subset of the far-field antenna, and the controller is adapted to cause the antenna module to oscillate between a near-field configuration and a far-field configuration while, for example, scanning an RFID tag of a wireless asset and receiving one or more return signals from the RFID tag, in order to determine a location of the wireless asset based on the one or more return signals.
