The electronic processor is configured to calculate an eccentricity of a center of gravity of the industrial machine with respect to a center of a bearing propelling the industrial machine and calculate a ground pressure associated with the bearing based on the eccentricity of the center of gravity. The electronic processor is also configured to set a maximum torque applied by an actuator included in the industrial machine to a value less than an available maximum torque based on the eccentricity of the center of gravity and the ground pressure.

An industrial machine that includes a dipper, a dipper handle, a boom, a crowd motor, a hoist motor, a swing motor, a first sensor, a second sensor, and a controller. The first sensor generates a first signal related to a dipper handle angle and the second sensor generates a second signal related to a hoist rope angle. The first signal and the second signal are received by the controller. The controller determines, based on the first and second signals, a retract torque value. The retract torque value is compared to a retract torque threshold values. If the retract torque value is greater or equal to the threshold value, the retract torque of the crowd motor is set to a maximum value. If the retract torque is less than the threshold value, the retract torque of the crowd motor is set to a default value.

A mining shovel includes a base, a revolving frame coupled to the base and rotatable about an axis, a boom pivotally coupled to the revolving frame, a handle coupled to the boom, and a dipper coupled to the handle. The dipper has a dipper door, and is located at a front end of the shovel. The dig force vector includes a dig force angle and a dig force magnitude. The method also includes determining a value for the dig force angle of the dig force vector, and controlling, using a processor, the dig force magnitude based on the determined value for the dig force angle. The dig force magnitude is controlled by controlling at least one of the torque associated with the crowd motor and the torque associated with the hoist motor.

A method of controlling a digging operation of an industrial machine. The industrial machine includes a dipper connected to a dipper handle, a hoist rope attached to the dipper, and a hoist motor moving the hoist rope and the dipper. The method includes determining that the dipper is ready to be unloaded, activating a secondary tipping control operation by controlling a speed of the hoist motor, controlling an acceleration ramp rate of the hoist motor, and controlling a deceleration ramp rate of the hoist motor. The method further includes determining when the dipper is unloaded and deactivating the secondary tipping control operation.
