Provided is a method for preparing a silica layer, comprising bringing to gelation a precursor layer formed from a precursor composition comprising a silica precursor, an acid catalyst and a surfactant.

Preparation method of silica layer

A polarizing plate and a display device including the same. The polarizing plate includes a retardation layer exhibiting ultraviolet blocking characteristics even in a state where the retardation layer does not include any ultraviolet absorber or light stabilizer. The polarizing plate can be used alone or in combination with an appropriate sunscreen or a light stabilizer as needed to selectively block ultraviolet rays in a region requiring blocking, without affecting display performance, such as color senses and image quality, of a display device. The polarizing plate can also be formed with a small thickness without requiring a separate ultraviolet blocking layer, and also has excellent durability, because the polarizing plate exhibits a certain ultraviolet blocking property even in the absence of an ultraviolet absorber or light stabilizer.

Polarizing plate and display device

A laminate film comprising a retardation layer exhibiting blocking characteristics against specific ultraviolet rays even in a state where the retardation layer does not include any ultraviolet absorber or light stabilizer. The laminate film which can be used alone or in combination with an appropriate sunscreen or a light stabilizer as needed to selectively block ultraviolet rays in a region requiring blocking, without affecting display performance, such as color senses and image quality, of a display device. The laminate film can also be formed with a lower thickness without requiring a separate ultraviolet blocking layer, and also has excellent durability, because the laminate film exhibits a certain ultraviolet blocking property even in the absence of an ultraviolet absorber or light stabilizer.

Laminate film

The present disclosure relates to a transmittance-variable device, a driving method thereof, a method for improving a light shielding ratio, and a use thereof. In some embodiments, a transmittance-variable device includes a transmittance-variable film capable of being switched between a transparent mode and a black mode depending on application of a voltage signal, and a power source for applying a voltage signal such that the intensity of the voltage signal decreases with time to implement the black mode, wherein the transmittance-variable film includes a first electrode substrate, an electrophoretic layer, and a second electrode substrate sequentially arranged. The transmittance-variable device can exhibit an excellent light shielding ratio in the black mode after driving with a voltage signal, and such a transmittance-variable device can be usefully used in a smart window.

Apparatus having variable transmittance

An optical device is disclosed herein. In some embodiments, an optical device includes a first base film and a second base film, a light modulation layer existing between the first and second base films, electrode layers formed on surfaces of the first and second base films that face the light modulation layer, wherein each electrode layer comprises a first region capable of applying an electric field to the light modulation layer, and a second region connecting the electrode layer to an external power source, wherein the second region on the first base film and the second region on the second base film face each other, and an insulating layer disposed between the facing second regions of the first and second base films. The optical device is capable of preventing defects such as short circuits even when an external power source has been connected in an encapsulated structure.

Optical device

A transmittance-variable film, a use thereof, and a smart window including the same are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a transmittance-variable film includes a first electrode substrate, a first electrode insulating layer disposed on the first electrode substrate, an electrophoretic layer, a second electrode insulating layer, and a second electrode insulating layer disposed on the second electrode substrate, wherein the first electrode substrate, the electrophoretic layer, and the second electrode substrate are sequentially arranged, and wherein the first and second electrode insulating layers contain a fluorine-based resin. Upon repeated driving of the film between a transparent mode and a black mode, the transmittance-variable film can maintain a transmittance constant in the transparent mode and exhibit an excellent light shielding ratio in the black mode.

Film having variable transmittance

A transmittance-variable film and a use thereof, where the transmittance-variable film can control pretilt of a liquid crystal interface by applying a liquid crystal alignment film containing splay oriented liquid crystal molecules, and can vertically and horizontally orient a liquid crystal layer or a liquid crystal interface according to an average tilt angle of the liquid crystal alignment film to ensure uniformity of driving and fast response speed. In addition, by applying a liquid crystal alignment film, the transmittance-variable film can be implemented in various modes with a simple coating-drying-curing method excluding the rubbing process by controlling an arrangement of liquid crystal molecules in a liquid crystal alignment film other than the pretilt control method using the conventional rubbing method.

This application relates to a liquid crystal display which comprises: an upper polarizer; a lower polarizer; and a liquid crystal panel provided between the upper polarizer and the lower polarizer, in which the upper polarizer and the lower polarizer are provided so that absorption axes of the upper and lower polarizers are parallel to each other, a first half wave plate, a positive C plate, and a second half wave plate are sequentially comprised between the upper polarizer and the liquid crystal panel, and the liquid crystal panel is a vertical alignment liquid crystal mode.
