A method and device of enabling interoperation between different devices over a network are provided. A test code corresponding to a service to be performed using device information received from a service providing device in a network is generated, the test code is transmitted to the service providing device, a result of the test code execution is received from the service providing device, and interoperability with the service providing device is determined with respect to the service by using the result of the execution of the test code. An environment suitable for interoperation with the service providing device is established when interoperation with the service providing device is possible.

An OSGi-based home gateway apparatus and a device register method includes a device detecting unit which detects at least one legacy device which does not load a controllable middleware from a plurality of home devices connected to the home network; an outside network interface which receives drive information of the detected legacy device through the outside network; a bundle creating unit which creates a legacy bundle by combining the input drive information and a predetermined network protocol which can be used in the home network; and a device registering unit which registers the created legacy bundle to the OSGi framework.

A system and method for intermediating an audio/video (A/V) stream between a data network and an IEEE 1394 network are provided. In an exemplary embodiment, an A/V stream of an IP network is provided to a device connected to the IEEE 1394 network in real time, or the A/V stream of the IP network is once stored and then is provided to the device connected to the IEEE 1394 network when a viewer desires to view the A/V stream. The A/V stream can be provided to the viewer irrespective of the format parser, codec, transmission protocol, and transmission control protocol, required for the transrecorder's reception of the A/V stream from the media server or for the transrecorder's transmission of the A/V stream to the display device. Also, diverse A/V streams provided from the server of the data network can be stored, and then can be provided to the viewer through the display device whenever the display device connected to the IEEE 1394 network requests the A/V stream.

System for intermediating A/V stream between data network and IEEE 1394 network and method thereof

An A/V stream-forwarding system forwarding A/V streams of a data network to an IEEE 1394 network and a method therefor. The A/V stream-forwarding system has a media server having an interface with the data network and providing the A/V streams; a transcoder receiving the A/V streams provided by the media server through the data-network interface, and transcoding the A/V streams into A/V streams in a predetermined format supported by an IEEE 1394 network; and; a display device receiving and reproducing the A/V streams of the transcoder in the predetermined format that is supported by the IEEE 1394 network. Accordingly, the A/V streams of the data network are converted into A/V streams in a predetermined format that is supported by the IEEE 1394 network, regardless of diverse A/V stream formats, codecs, transmission protocols, transmission control protocols, and so on, of the data network.

A method for providing services in an IP-based network system to control a plurality of devices connected to one another within the network. The method includes the steps of (a) accessing a service lookup device that notifies services provided by the devices within the network, (b) displaying information on the devices connected to the network, (c) displaying a list of services provided by a device selected from the displayed devices, and (d) performing an operation according to a service selected from the displayed list of services. Accordingly, a user can be provided with services by the devices within the network either through a user interface or through a command.

A storage device stores device and service information on the devices in the home network. A main controller controls operations of each element. Accordingly, a remote control service limited to a specific household device becomes applicable to various devices.
