A liquid crystal display device and a method of driving the same are provided for one or more embodiments. The liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal panel including a plurality of display blocks and displaying an image in response to image signals; a plurality of light-emitting blocks emitting light to the liquid crystal panel and corresponding to the plurality of display blocks; a first look-up table including a normalized value obtained by normalizing an initial duty ratio corresponding to the brightness of the image to a maximum duty ratio corresponding to the maximum brightness of the image; and a timing controller receiving the normalized value corresponding to each of the light-emitting blocks from the first look-up table and using the normalized value to provide an optical data signal corresponding to each of the light-emitting blocks.

Liquid crystal display device and method of driving the same

In a method of local dimming of a light source including a plurality of light-emitting blocks, a dimming level of each light-emitting block of the plurality of light-emitting blocks is determined. A compensation dimming level of a predetermined light-emitting block is calculated based on dimming levels of peripheral light-emitting blocks disposed around a periphery of the predetermined light-emitting block. The predetermined light-emitting block is driven based on the compensation dimming level.

Method of local dimming of light source, light source apparatus for performing the method and display apparatus having the light source apparatus

A plurality of point-light sources emits light, based on an image displayed on a display panel. A substrate has the point-light sources disposed thereon. A power-controlling section provides the point-light sources with first driving current having a pulse current with a pulse modulation duty less than or equal to a maximum pulse modulation duty cycle and a first amplitude in accordance with a normal image. A power-controlling section provides the point-light sources with second driving current having a pulse current with the maximum pulse modulation duty cycle and first boosting amplitude greater than the first amplitude in accordance with a high luminance image. Thus, the quantity of emitted light of the point-light sources may be adjusted in accordance with the position of an image displayed in a display panel, and the point-light sources that correspond to high luminance images may be boosted up.

Backlight assembly and method of driving the same

A backlight assembly includes a light guiding plate, a driving board, a light emitting chip and a flexible board. The light guiding plate has a plate shape. The driving board is disposed substantially parallel with a side surface of the light guiding plate to face the side surface of the light guiding plate. The light emitting chip is formed on a surface of the driving board to generate light toward the side surface of the light guiding plate. The flexible board has a connection wiring that provides a power source to the driving board. The driving board is disposed on the flexible board.

Backlight assembly and display device having the same

A light source apparatus includes a light source module, a local dimming control part and a light source driving part. The light source module includes a plurality of light-emitting blocks. Each of the light-emitting blocks includes a first color light source, a second color light source and a third color light source, respectively. The local dimming control part drives the light-emitting blocks by blocks. The local dimming control part sets a reference duty signal for first, second and third color driving signals in accordance with a driving mode of the light source module. The light source driving part generates the first color driving signal, the second color driving signal and the third color driving signal by using the reference duty ratio set in accordance with the driving mode and a driving current having a same peak current level in accordance with the driving mode.

A backlight assembly including direct-type lamps and an edge-type lamp and a liquid crystal display having the backlight assembly. The direct-type lamps are arranged with a predetermined interval to emit light, and the edge-type lamp is provided at a side portion of a light guide plate provided above or below the direct-type lamps. The light guide plate and a light guide pattern output light, which is emitted from the edge-type lamp, through a space between two adjacent direct-type lamps. The backlight assembly supplies light to the light receiving region such that brightness is uniformly distributed throughout the light receiving region regardless of the position of the direct-type lamps.

Backlight assembly and liquid crystal display having the same

A backlight assembly includes a main circuit board having a light-generating part, a control circuit board which provides a control signal for controlling the light-generating part, and a sub-circuit board which is electrically connected to the control circuit board and receives the control signal, the sub-circuit board including a buffer which generates an amplified control signal in response to the control signal, and where the sub-circuit board is electrically connected to the main circuit board and provides the amplified control signal. The control circuit board and the main circuit board are electrically connected by the sub-circuit board, and the sub-circuit board amplifies the control signal received from the control circuit board and provides the control signal to the main circuit board.

An optical member according to one or more embodiments includes an optical plate and an optical film. In an embodiment, the optical plate includes an incident part receiving light provided from the exterior and an emitting part emitting the light. The optical film is attached to the incident part and includes a first conductive layer, a second conductive layer facing the first conductive layer and polarized particles disposed between the first conductive layer and the second conductive layer. Thus, light sources of a backlight assembly may be individually driven regardless of the type of light source and the disposition of the light sources, and image display quality may be improved by improving a contrast ratio by realizing various gradation voltages.

Optical member, backlight assembly and display apparatus having the same

In a method of driving a light source, light generated by a light source is sensed in order to detect color coordinates of a red color, color coordinates of a green color and color coordinates of a blue color. A light source color space formed by the color coordinates of the red, green and blue colors is compared with a reference color space formed by red reference color coordinates, green reference color coordinates and blue reference color coordinates. Then, color temperature of the light generated by the light source is controlled so that the light source color space covers the reference color space.

Method for driving a light source and backlight assembly employing the same

A backlight assembly includes a circuit board and a plurality of point light source groups. The plurality of point light source groups includes N point light sources that generate different respective colors and being arranged on the circuit board. Here, N is a number of point light sources. One light source group of the light source groups is rotated by an angle of predetermined degrees in a clockwise direction or a counter-clockwise direction with respect to another light source group that is adjacent to the one point light source group.
