Disclosed is a new and emerging serotype ofdesignated serotype 6C, and assays and monoclonal antibodies useful in identifying same. Also disclosed is a novel pneumococcal polysaccharide with the repeating unit {&#x2192;2) glucose 1 (1&#x2192;3) glucose 2 (1&#x2192;3) rhamnose (1&#x2192;3) ribitol (5&#x2192;phosphate}. This new serotype may be included in pneumococcal vaccines.

Pneumococcal serotype 6D

The present invention relates to an anti-idiotype antibodies directed against the monoclonal antibody (HmenB3) toserogroup B and hybridomas producing the anti-idiotype antibodies. This invention is also directed to vaccine compositions comprising the anti-idiotypic antibodies in combination with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. These vaccine compositions can be used to prevent or treat the serogroup B meningococcal disease.
