A method of processing an image signal includes: converting a source image signal into an image signal corresponding to a color space for a color gamut mapping; reducing a color gamut of the image signal; and mapping the image signal corresponding to colors within the reduced color gamut into an image signal corresponding to colors within a display color gamut, wherein the colors of the display color gamut are displayed by a display panel.

Method of displaying image and display apparatus for performing the same

A color signal processing apparatus calculates a target color gamut including color signal values of each pixel of an input video, and calculates target primary colors corresponding to the calculated target color gamut. The color signal processing apparatus produces the calculated target primary colors by mixing primary colors in an input color gamut of the input video, and converts and outputs the color signal values of each pixel of the input video to match the calculated target color gamut defined by the calculated target primary colors. Since it is possible to adaptively transform the input color gamut of the input video, the input video that is reproduced has an increased light quantity and an enhanced contrast.

Color signal display apparatus and method

Provided are an apparatus using ambient light as backlight and a method for correcting colors in the apparatus. The apparatus includes a color correction matrix generator and a color corrector. The color correction matrix generator generates a first color correction matrix for correcting a second color conversion matrix when ambient light is used as backlight into a third color conversion matrix for the original backlight. The color corrector corrects colors using the first color correction matrix.

An intelligent color gamut management method. The intelligent color gamut management method performs a saturation mapping and a luminance mapping separately according to a characteristic of a target device, thereby enabling the target device to represent a natural color image. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce color reproduction distortion of an image between different color devices having different color gamuts and also reproduce a natural color image, and also, secondary CMY colors, which vary depending on a color temperature, can be adjusted to be more natural. Since the color gamut boundary can be easily obtained, a memory capacity can be saved a freedom of algorithm can be increased.

Intelligent color gamut management method

A display device using external light and including: a light guide panel guiding light; an internal light source disposed on at least one side of the light guide panel and supplying internal light to the light guide panel; an optical filter disposed on a rear surface of the light guide panel to be exposed to the outside, and reflecting light with specific wavelengths and transmitting light with wavelengths other than the specific wavelengths among the internal light emitted from the internal light source and external light; and a display panel forming an image using the internal light and the external light which are illuminated through the light guide panel and the optical filter. The display device improves visibility using both external light and internal light by simply adding the optical filter to an existing display device.

A spoke-processing apparatus usable with sequential color display devices using spokes depending on a color saturation and a luminance of an input color signal. A spoke-processing method usable in sequential color display devices using the spokes includes calculating a color saturation of an input color signal and determining whether the calculated color saturation is less than or equal to a first threshold, determining whether the input color signal has a luminance that is greater than a second threshold when the calculated color saturation is determined to be less than or equal to the first threshold, determining whether to increase the luminance of the input color signal using spoke areas when the luminance of the color input signal is greater than the second threshold and the calculated color saturation is less than or equal to the first threshold and calculating a signal adjustment ratio to intensify or lessen the input color signal based on whether the luminance of the input color signal is increased by the spoke areas, and outputting an output color signal having luminance of respective color components intensified or lessened according to the calculated signal adjustment ratio.

Color-spoke processing apparatus and method usable with sequential color display devices

A scene adaptive power control device using a plurality of input images as consecutive input images and controlling a power level of a light source used in displaying the third input image. The scene adaptive power control device including a histogram analysis unit to analyze the second input image and detect a first maximum brightness value of the second input image, a determination unit to detect brightness values matching a first threshold as a predetermined frequency value in the generated histogram and determining a second maximum brightness value, a generation unit generating a power control signal to control the power level of the light source by a value obtained by dividing the second maximum brightness value by the first maximum brightness value, and a compensation unit increasing a brightness of the third input image inversely proportional to the power level of the light source reduced by the power control signal.
