One aspect of a cooling system includes a gas source connected to a component to be cooled. The gas source continuously supplies compressed gas to the component in response to an input. The cooling system also includes a controller connected to the gas source, the controller to provide the input to the gas source to continuously supply the compressed gas to the component.

Aircraft gaseous cooling system

A system and method to cool a bearing. The system includes a heat pipe extending through a thickness of an inner ring of the bearing from a first surface to an opposing second surface and a cooling lubricant in fluid communication with the first surface. The method includes exposing the first surface of the roller bearing to lubricant and transferring heat energy through the heat pipes.

Bearing raceway heat distribution using heat pipes

A system and method to detect particles in a fluid stream. The system includes a separator configured to separate particles from bubbles passing through the fluid stream and a sensor configured to detect the particles. The method includes passing the fluid stream through the separator, separating the particles from bubbles passing through the fluid stream, and detecting the presence of the particles.

Non-metallic debris monitoring system

A cooling system using one or more heat pipes rotating about a central axis to transfer heat energy from one medium to another. The heat pipes are oriented within a rotating member such that the axis of the heat pipe is non-coaxial with that of a central axis of the rotating member. Centrifugal forces are used to assist the movement of the working fluid within the heat pipe. The cooling system also includes heat pipes associated with a planetary carrier assembly and supplemental heat exchangers for use in aircraft and other machinery.

Helicopter gearbox auxiliary cooling system

A passive cooling system for an aircraft includes a rotor assembly and a closed heat pipe. The closed heat pipe is carried by the rotor assembly and configured to extract heat energy from a heat source positioned away from the rotor assembly and configured to dissipate the heat energy through the rotor assembly.

Passive cooling of transmission using mast mounted heat pipes

The cooling system of the present disclosure is configured to promote heat transfer in a gearbox. The system can include a container for housing a gas, the gas having a sufficient percentage of helium so that once the gas is introduced into the gearbox, the helium increases heat transfer from the heat generating components of the gearbox. The method of the present disclosure can include selectively introducing the helium gas into the gearbox.

Aircraft gearbox gaseous cooling system

A rotor blade for an aircraft includes an airfoil skin, an active element, and an actuator configured to operate the active element. A heat pipe is configured to promote heat transfer from the actuator to the airfoil skin. The heat pipe has a slope gradient such that a centrifugal force generated during rotation of the rotor blade promotes travel of a condensed working fluid within the heat pipe to move from a condenser end of the heat pipe toward an evaporator end of the heat pipe.

System for heat dissipation from an internal actuator in a rotor blade

A method of fabricating a reflective stretched membrane mirror for use in the collection and focusing of solar energy includes a tensioning fixture to which a plurality of air-actuated cylinders are attached. The piston arm of each cylinder is in turn connected to an air-actuated clamp which is designed to hold a portion of the peripheral edge of the reflective film which is to be stretched. Depending upon the properties of the film and its tensioning characteristics, cylinders which need the same air pressure are connected in common to a single regulator. The regulators are then connected to an air compressor and the sheet of reflective film is tensioned to a desired level at which point it is adhesively bonded to a circular frame. Once a first reflective film is bonded to a top side of the frame, the process is repeated with a second reflective film bonded to the back or opposite side of the frame. Once both reflective films have been securely bonded to the frame surfaces, a vacuum is pulled on the interior space so as to create a parabolic contour in the film.
