The present invention relates to a composition for coating metallic surfaces, comprising a binder component; a corrosion inhibitor polymer based on an ethylenically monocarboxylic and dicarboxylic acid and, if appropriate, further ethylenical monomers, a solvent component, and, if appropriate, crosslinkable components, and also pigment/filler components. The invention further relates to processes for its preparation and also to methods of coating a metallic surface using the composition, to coated metallic surfaces thus obtained, and to the use of the composition as a primer, particularly in coil coating or in atmospheric corrosion control. After drying, the applied layer preferably has a thickness of at least 3.1 &#x3bc;m and is therefore thicker than a typical pretreatment layer.

Process for applying integrated pretreatment layers to metallic surfaces, particularly the surfaces of coil metals, by treatment with a composition comprising at least one binder, crosslinker, a finely divided inorganic filler, and compounds containing at least two thioamide groups or containing one thioamide group and at least one functional group. The present invention relates to an aqueous antifreeze composition comprising 10 to 50% by weight of one or more dicarboxylic acids, preferably aliphatic dicarboxylic acids having 4 to 12 carbon atoms in the form of the alkali metal, ammonium or alkaline earth metal salt. Furthermore, polymers (component A) are used for the treatment of metal surfaces and for the deposition of metals or metal alloys on a plastics surface, and polymers composed of special components A'a, A&#x2032;b and A&#x2032;c.
