A technical solution for monitoring operation of a medical delivery device such as an infusion pump for occlusion is provided that employs sensing pump motor current and monitoring average motor current difference as between dispense and aspirate strokes in a pump cycle. The solution can be implemented alone or in combination with other occlusion sensing methods that use one or more of pump measurement data such as pump stroke duration (e.g., duration of aspirate stroke or dispense stroke in a rotational metering-type pump or a reciprocating-type pump), end-stop or limit switch activation, and duration difference between aspirate and dispense strokes to detect occlusion.

Devices, systems and methods are provided to improve pairing between first and second devices to mitigate risk that either device pairs with an unintended device by reducing transmit power to limit communication range between devices to be paired, using minimum and maximum received signal strength thresholds to reject unintended devices, and instructing user to move to another location when multiple devices are detected for pairing. The second device scanning time for detecting advertising signals from the first device is adjusted to detect multiple device co-existence. Pairing is controlled to occur when the second device is the only device that the first device detects.

Systems, apparatuses and methods for device pairing having range control and unintended device coexistence detection

Devices, systems and methods are provided to implement key generation for secure pairing between first and second devices using embedded out-of-band (OOB) key generation and without requiring the devices to have input/output (IO) capability to enter authentication information. Bluetooth Smart or Low Energy (BLE) OOB pairing option can be used for pairing medical devices with added security of OOB key generation. The OOB key generation comprises providing first and second devices with the same predefined credential and secure hashing algorithm, and making input of the hashing algorithm of the first and second devices the same. The first device transmits unique data to second device (e.g., via BLE advertising) to share and compute a similar input. The first and second devices use the credential and shared data with the hashing function to generate a key that is the same at each of first and second devices.

Systems, apparatuses and methods for secure wireless pairing between two devices using embedded out-of-band (OOB) key generation

Devices, systems and methods are provided to improve pairing between two devices by employing an inductive antenna circuit (e.g., 13.56 MHz) in addition to another wireless communication antenna circuit (e.g., 2.4 GHz) and a pairing protocol to minimize pairing between unintended devices. Communications via inductive antenna circuit (e.g., 13.56 MHz) require that the devices to be paired to be in close proximity to each other, which increases the likelihood of intended pairing between these devices. When the inductive pulses of the first device are detected by the second device, the second device commences advertising signals with time stamps. The inductive pulses and the time stamps facilitate synchronizing scanning windows of the first device with the advertising signals of the second device to lessen the likelihood of interference of advertising pulses from an unintended device.

Systems, apparatuses and methods for secure inductive pairing between two devices

Devices, systems and methods are provided for playing back video or other dynamic content at a point of interaction with one or more users via a device that is configured on a sticker, label, card or other substrate. The device is self-powered and employs ambient radio frequency energy harvesting to charge a renewable, rechargeable energy storage element. The device has a display for displaying static content until dynamic content such as the video content is output in response to a user input. The display on the device can be used for outputting the video content, or the device can transmit the video content to an NFC-enabled smart phone for display without the smart phone having to download the video content from the internet.
