The surface roughness of the rolling surface 2 of the roller 1 along both the axial and circumferential direction is 0.06 .mu.m RA or less, while the surface roughness of the opposing inner ring raceway 4 is 0.08 to 0.15 .mu.m Ra along the axial direction, and 0.04 or less along the circumferential direction, whereby the heat generated by the roller bearing is kept to a minimum, and the danger of burning of the roller bearing is reduced.

A radial needle bearing includes an outer ring having a race track formed on the inner surface thereof and inward flanges at both ends thereof, a retainer with a plural number of pockets, rotatably located within the outer ring, a seal ring located between the end face of the retainer and inside the inward flange, the seal ring functioning to impede the flow of a lubricating oil flowing in the axial direction within the outer ring, and a plural number of needles rotatably held within each of the pockets. The radial needle bearing is improved in that the outer diameter of the retainer is slightly smaller than the diameter of the race track, and the inner diameter of the retainer is slightly larger than the inscribed circle of the plural number of needles.

A roller bearing unit for a planetary gear is made such that the rollers between the thrust washers are restrained from interference with the thrust washers upon an inclining of the planetary gear either by making the distance between the axially inner faces of washers sufficiently large, or by preventing axial movement of the guide ring between the rollers, so that the axially outer ends are prevented from rubbing hard against the axially inner faces of the washers during running.

A sleeve for supporting a rolling bearing comprising a metal core with a high degree of dimensional elasticity to produce a larger radial thickness in the free state, and a cylindrical synthetic resin spacer section laminated with the core, so that the sleeve can follow up the increase of the size of the space in which the sleeve is accommodated.

In a thrust bearing for retaining a planetary gear device of an automatic transmission of an automobile, for example, either or each of the two lateral edges of a race supporting the rollers of the bearing is extended beyond the bearing and this extension is properly bent to guide the lubricating oil flowing through the bearing.

A seal plate for sealing the axial end opening between the outer ring and the inner ring of a cylindrical roller bearing includes a mandrelor core. The mandrel has a fixing portion at the peripheral part to be fitted to the outer ring, a slant portion protruding obliquely and outwardly, an intermediate portion extending from the slant portion perpendicularly to the axis, and bent portion protruding inwardly in the axial direction from the inner edge of the intermediate portion. A lip portion formed of an elastic member is bonded to the bent portion to extend in the opposite direction to the fixing portion. In the cylindrical outside surface of the flange of the inner ring, there is a step-formed portion in two steps at a position facing the bent portion and the lip portion of the mandrel of the seal plate. The bent portion is positioned close to a cutout surface (step surface) and an end face of the first step with a minute axial and a minute radial clearance to form a non-contact type sealing portion, and the inner edge of the lip portion is positioned slidingly in contact with a cutout surface of the second step to form a contact type sealing portion.

Sealed cylindrical roller bearing

A combined bearing having both a radial bearing and a thrust bearing which is applicable to the strut-type suspension of an automotive vehicle. The combined bearing includes a bearing race member having a sealing capacity which is coupled to an opposing bearing race member by using an engaging lip and a coupling lip. Both lips are provided on a radial bearing member. The outside configuration of the assembled sealed combined bearing is compact. In addition the construction, handling and assembly are very simple.

In a roller bearing comprising an outer ring which has an inwardly bent annular flange, a sealing ring is loosely interposed the inner circumference of the flange and a shaft with a suitable clearance. An element(s) for imparting a forced rotation to the sealing ring is, also, provided on either one or both of the sealing ring, cage, or the flange of the outer ring to drive the sealing ring by the rotation of the roller, cage or the flange of the outer ring. By virtue of this construction lubricant can be forcibly circulated through the sealing ring between and throughout the interior and exterior of the roller bearing.

In a shell type race for a thrust roller bearing comprising at least a planar race wall on which rollers may roll, and an axially extending, cyclindrical wall adapted to be inserted and located in a housing, the outer surface of the cylindrical wall has a plurality of resilient tongues projecting outwardly so as to be open toward the race wall.

The cage includes two interconnected members. Each member has a plurality of circumferentially spaced openings; the openings in one member aligned with and spaced from the openings in the other member to form pockets for rollers. A portion of each long side of the openings is adapted to retain the rollers. Each interconnected member has tongues adjacent the openings. The tongues extend toward the other member with the tongues on one interconnected member facing and circumferentially spaced from the tongues on the other interconnected member. The spacing between the tongues in each pocket is chosen so that the tongues act as guide surfaces for the rollers.
