A mobile telecommunications apparatus includes a portable media device adapted to receive electronic data through a network, the portable media device comprising a first antenna adapted to receive electromagnetic signals of a particular frequency, the frequency is at least one of a radio frequency and a television (TV) frequency, and a headset in electrical communication with the portable media device and adapted to receive the electronic data through the network, the headset includes a switch coupled to the first antenna, a second antenna coupled to the switch, and a headset speaker comprising at least one of a mono headset speaker and a stereo headset speaker, the switch is adapted to combine operation of the first antenna and the second antenna into a dual operation diversity receiver. The network may comprise a Digital Video Broadcasting over Handheld (DVB-H) network.

Implementation of diversity antennas in small portable media devices and cell phones

A multiple-mode multiple band transceiver is disclosed. Some embodiments include a multiple-channel transmitter including a plurality of selectable transmit-channel components, the plurality of selectable transmit-channel components sharing at least one element coupled to a modulator, the plurality of selectable transmit channel components forming at least first and second transmit channels configured to generate radio-frequency signals using at least a first and a second multiple-access modulation technique, and a first switch configured to enable at least one of the first and second transmit channels to transmit a communication signal using at least one of the first and the second multiple-access modulation techniques.

Shared functional block multi-mode multi-band communication transceivers

A low noise transmitting device is disclosed. The transmitting device receives a modulated signal having a modulation bandwidth and an intermediate center frequency and generates a modulated transmit band signal at a carrier frequency. The transmitting device includes a first filter that receives the modulated signal and passes frequencies within the modulation bandwidth, producing a low noise filtered modulated signal, and a low noise frequency source that generates a low noise main synthesizer frequency. The filtered modulated signal and the main synthesizer frequency are then fed into a mixer that mixes the two signals (produces either the sum or difference). The output is a low noise modulated transmit band signal that may be amplified to transmit power levels without the need for power-inefficient post-amplification filtering.

Device system and method for low noise radio frequency transmission

A communication system for communicating CDMA and GSM transmit and receive RF information signals through one or more antennas is disclosed. The communication system is comprised of a transmitting unit, a receiving unit, and at least one antenna. The transmitting unit modulates and upconverts a transmit baseband information signal to generate a CDMA transmit RF information signal and a GSM transmit RF information signal. The receiving unit downconverts and demodulates a CDMA receive RF information signal and a GSM receive RF information signal to generate a receive baseband information signal. One or more antennas are coupled to the transmitting unit and receiving unit for transmitting the CDMA transmit RF information signal and the GSM transmit RF information signal, and receiving the CDMA receive RF information signal and the GSM receive RF information signal. The transmitting unit comprises a modulator for modulating a transmit IF LO frequency with the transmit baseband information signal to generate a transmit IF information signal. It also includes a plurality of upconverters for upconverting the transmit IF information signal with a GSM transmit RF LO frequency to generate a GSM transmit RF information signal, and for upconverting the transmit IF information signal with a CDMA transmit RF LO frequency to generate at least one CDMA transmit RF information signal. The receiving unit comprises a downconverter for downconverting a CDMA receive RF information signal with a receive RF LO frequency to generate a receive IF information signal, and for downconverting at least one GSM receive RF information signal with the receive RF LO frequency to generate a receive IF information signal. It also includes a demodulator for demodulating the receive IF information signal with a receive IF LO frequency to generate a receive baseband information signal.

System and process for shared functional block CDMA and GSM communication transceivers

A modulated signal is translated to a broadcast frequency by a translation phase lock loop. In the translation phase lock loop the output frequency, which is the broadcast frequency, is mixed with a translation frequency, and the resulting translated frequency is compared to the modulated signal. If an amplitude modulator is inserted into the translation loop, the phase comparison/feedback nature of the phase lock loop will tend to cancel the phase noise introduced in the amplitude modulation process. Any other circuits placed within the loop will tend to have any phase noise they introduce, which is in the phase lock loop bandwidth, canceled by the loop.

A communication system capable of communicating RF signals at any one of a plurality of communication standards through a common antenna is disclosed. The communication system includes a transmitting unit having at least one transmit RF information signal output, and a receiving unit having at least one receive RF information signal input and a GPS RF information signal input. The transmitting unit includes a modulator for modulating a transmit IF with a transmit baseband information signal to generate a transmit IF information signal and an upconverter for upconverting the transmit IF information signal with a transmit RF to generate at least one transmit RF information signal. The receiving unit includes a receive downconverter for downconverting the at least one receive RF information signal with a receive RF to generate a receive IF information signal, a GPS downconverter for downconverting the GPS RF information signal with the receive RF to generate a GPS IF information signal, and a demodulator for demodulating the receive IF information signal and the GPS IF information signal with a receive IF to generate GPS and receive baseband signals. An antenna is coupled to the at least one transmit RF information signal output, the at least one receive RF information signal input, and the GPS RF information signal input for transmitting and receiving RF information signals.
