A fall detection and identification system includes a tag worn by a user and a server. The tag collects acceleration data from one or more sensors embedded within the tag and transmits the data to the server. The server receives the data from the tag and performs an analysis on the data to detect and identify a fall. The analysis includes determining a change in acceleration of the user over the time window based on the acceleration data; comparing the change in acceleration of the user against one or more thresholds; and determining a status of the user based on the comparison of the change in acceleration of the user against the one or more thresholds.

Fall detection and identification by using data from human condition safety tags

Method and apparatus for a wireless charging and communication system

A system includes a sensor attached to an individual and detects an individual's improper body movements that increase injury risk. The system includes a safety tag with an accelerometer that measures proper acceleration. Proper acceleration along multiple directions are projected onto multiple 2-D planes, generating acceleration vectors. Phasor angles of the acceleration vectors are calculated, and if the spread in phasor angles for any one 2-D plane within a moving time window exceeds a threshold, the system determines that the individual has made an improper body movement.

Methods and systems for detecting potential injury conditions

A target receives two signals of different modes in association with a first location and another two signals in association with a second location. The first two signals are assumed to have been emitted effectively simultaneously from the first location, and the second two signals are assumed to have been emitted effectively simultaneously from the second location. A first distance is calculated in view of a receipt time difference of the first two signals in view of differing rates of propagation assumed between these two signals; a second distance is calculated in view of another receipt time difference of these second two signals in view of differing rates of propagation assumed between each of these other signals. A possible location of the target is then calculated in view of the first distance and its associated first location and the second distance and its associated second location.

Circuits, systems and methods of hybrid electromagnetic and piezoelectric communicators

A system and method for digital watermarking a video signal with an increased bit rate is achieved by inserting the additional information which constitutes the watermarking signal within the video signal on the chrominance signal. Thus, the additional information is 'impressed' upon the chrominance component of the video signal. The human visual system is much less sensitive to chrominance than to luminance, and therefore, additional distortion which results from the higher bit rate can be allowed on the chrominance signal and yet such distortion will not be detected by the human visual system.

Watermarking scheme for digital video

Each bit of information that is impressed upon a video signal is impressed upon each pixel of a block of pixels of the video signal a video signal so as to reduce errors in transmission of the additional information. Prior to impression, the additional information may be further coded, e.g., using channel coding, interleaving, and differential encoding. A receiver performs complimentary processes to recover the additional data.

A method and apparatus increase the time and frequency diversity of a multi-stream signal in a DAB system. A plurality of audio streams are divided into four (4) digital sub-streams, C, C, C, and C. Each sub-stream C, C, C, and Cis assigned a unique frequency band, and time slot. A first core sub-stream Cis mapped to one frequency partition and a second core sub-stream Cis mapped to another frequency partition and delayed relative to the first core sub-stream. Similarly, two enhancement sub-streams Cand Care mapped to different frequency partitions and are time delayed relative to each other and the core sub-streams. The two core sub-streams Cand Ccan have a maximum separation across both the time and frequency axes.

Method and apparatus for multi-stream transmission with time and frequency diversity in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication system

A system and method for providing ancillary data over compressed multimedia packets. Ancillary data may be added to encoded or compressed packets without increasing the bandwidth required to transmit the packets over a transmission medium. After transmission, the ancillary data can be recovered and the packets restored to their original form without any loss of data or damage to original content. The ancillary data can be presented to a user on-demand, or in response to an event. The content of the ancillary data can also be correlated to the type of event that initiated the delivery or to the content of the encoded or compressed packets.

Dynamically and on-demand selected ancillary data over compressed multimedia packets without bandwidth expansion

Error bursts are randomized by an interleaver which makes use of 'set leaders' to generate permutation indices. The permutation indices are used to route bits from initial positions in an input bit stream to re-arranged or randomized positions in an output bit stream. When the output bit stream is then transmitted and subsequently received by a de-interleaver which returns the received bits to their initial, pre-randomized positions, the resulting received signal has an acceptable bit error rate.

Methods and devices for randomizing burst errors

Techniques to reduce signal amplitude peak-to-average ratio (PAR) in a wireless communications system are described. The apparatus may include a signal conditioning module to receive a baseband signal. The signal conditioning module may split the baseband signal along multiple paths, delay one or more of the paths, and combine the multiple paths to form a conditioned signal having lower signal amplitude PAR than the baseband signal. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

'Reliability-related' values are assigned to received signal samples containing noise and distortion. The samples are then sent to a Viterbi decoder in order to regenerate originally transmitted messages.

Methods and devices for decoding signals containing noise and distortion

An apparatus provides an optical wavelength division multiplexed signal having 2M optical channels such that each of M information-bearing signals are differentially encoded onto 2 of the 2M optical channels. In particular, the apparatus comprises M inverters, 2M electrical-to-optical converters and a multiplexer. Each electrical-to-optical converter provides an optical signal at a different one of 2M wavelengths. The apparatus receives the M information-bearing signals and (a) creates M optical signals, each at a different wavelength, by converting each of the M information bearing signals into the optical domain via M of the 2M electrical-to-optical converters, and (b) creates M inverted optical signals, each at a different wavelength, by first inverting each of the M information bearing signals (via the M inverters) before conversion into the optical domain via the remaining M electrical-to-optical converters. The M optical signals along with the M inverted optical signals are then applied to the multiplexer, which provides an optical wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) signal having 2M channels.
