The disclosed systems and methods provide methods and systems for providing power throttling adapted for high performance network switches. A method includes determining, for each of a plurality of measurement periods within a thermal average period, an energy usage estimate for a packet processing block configured to process ingress packets at a power gated clock rate. The method includes determining, for each of the plurality of measurement periods, a target clock rate for the packet processing block based on the determined energy usage estimates to meet a target energy value that is averaged for the thermal average period. The method includes adjusting, for each of the plurality of measurement periods, the power gated clock rate towards the target clock rate, wherein the adjusting causes the packet processing block to process the ingress packets at the adjusted power gated clock rate.

Power throttle for network switches

A switch architecture includes an ingress module, ingress fabric interface module, and a switch fabric. The switch fabric communicates with egress fabric interface modules and egress modules. The architecture implements multiple layers of congestion management. The congestion management may include fast acting link level flow control and more slowly acting end-to-end flow control. The switch architecture simultaneously provides high scalability, with low latency and low frame loss.

A system includes service management circuitry to dynamically deploy a plurality of service agents in response to dynamic assembly of a corresponding chain of services that each provide different service functionality. The different service functionality can be provided to an operational network device by different respective network devices over a network. The network interface circuitry can receive service performance information from each of the service agents. The performance information can include information indicative of the performance of the respective network devices. The service management circuitry can analyze the received service performance information and manage the chain of services.

A network switch for network communications includes an embedded programmable state machine to monitor data flows through the switch. The programmable state machine is configured to retain selectable states of selectable data packet fields. Programmable switch logic operative with the programmable state machine is configured to output one or more potential actions to be taken based on a selectable computation of detected selectable states. The programmable state machine can be implemented with either table lookups or flexible logic.

A system, method and a computer readable medium for processing packets transmitted using relaxed order in an ordered multi-path network are provided. Packets associated with a data flow from the ordered multi-path network are received out of order. The received packets are reassembled into a sequential order, without gaps, prior to being delivered to a protocol stock for sequential processing.

A device implementing a scalable low-latency mesh may include a memory management unit, an egress processor, and an egress cell circuit that includes at least a first queue and a second queue. The memory management unit may be configured to buffer first cells for transmission. The egress cell circuit may be configured to queue the first cells from the memory management unit in the first queue, queue second cells from an off-chip memory management unit of another device in the second queue, and schedule the first cells from the first queue and second cells from the second queue for transmission via an egress processor. The egress processor may be configured to transmit the first and second cells over at least one first port.

Disclosed are various embodiments for multi-homing in an extended bridge, including both multi-homing of port extenders and multi-homing of end stations. In various embodiments, a controlling bridge device receives a packet via an ingress virtual port and determines a destination virtual port link aggregation group based at least in part on a destination media access control (MAC) address of an end station in the packet. The controlling bridge device selects one of multiple egress virtual ports of the destination virtual port link aggregation group. The end station of the extended bridge is reachable through any of the egress virtual ports of the destination virtual port link aggregation group. The controlling bridge device forwards the packet through the selected egress virtual port, and the forwarded packet includes an identifier of a destination virtual port to which the end station is connected.
