Methods, systems and computer program products for bringing-up a computing cluster on a public cloud infrastructure. The method includes using a multicloud management system which is configured to bring-up a computing cluster on any one of a plurality of different public cloud infrastructures to bring-up the cluster in a user's account on the public cloud infrastructure, allowing the user to directly utilize tools and features of the public cloud infrastructure and/or computer security of the user's choice.

Computing cluster bring-up on any one of a plurality of different public cloud infrastructures

Methods, systems, and computer program products for flexible virtualization system deployment into different cloud computing environments. A set of floating licenses to virtualization system software components is established. The set of floating licenses are configured to permit usage of the virtualization system software components on different cloud computing infrastructures. Workload parameters of a workload to be deployed to one of the different cloud computing infrastructures is considered with respect to cloud attributes corresponding to the different cloud computing infrastructures. One or more candidate target cloud computing infrastructures are selected based upon a comparison between workload attributes of a computing workload and cloud attributes of the candidate target cloud computing infrastructures. Virtualization system software components are deployed into the selected target cloud computing infrastructures. Licenses to the virtualization system software components can float between any combination of different cloud computing infrastructures, including floating the licenses between private clouds and public clouds.

Multi-cloud licensed software deployment

Methods, systems and computer program products for intra-footprint computing cluster bring-up within a virtual private cloud. A network connection is established between an initiating module and a virtual private cloud (VPC). An initiating module allocates resources of the virtual private cloud including a plurality of nodes that correspond to members of a to-be-configured computing cluster. A cluster management module having coded therein an intended computing cluster configuration is configured into at least one of the plurality of nodes. The members of the to-be-configured computing cluster interoperate from within the VPC to accomplish a set of computing cluster bring-up operations that configure the plurality of members into the intended computing cluster configuration. Execution of bring-up instructions of the management module serve to allocate networking IP addresses of the virtual private cloud. The allocated networking IP addresses of the virtual private cloud are assigned to networking interfaces of the plurality of nodes.

Intra-footprint computing cluster bring-up

A plurality of different virtualization system images are configured for deployment to a plurality of nodes in heterogeneous environments. Individual ones of the virtualization system images are configured such that once deployed, the nodes form a computer cluster having a storage pool that is shared across the nodes. When configuring the virtualization system images, information that describes the heterogeneous computing environments is accessed, and constraints pertaining the heterogeneous computing environments are reconciled in advance of configuring the different virtualization system images. A common subnet across the heterogeneous environments is established. The plurality of different virtualization system images are configured to access the common subnet once deployed. The common subnet serves as a storage I/O communication path over which a cluster-wide storage pool is implemented. The virtualization system images are configured to correspond to address portions of a contiguous address space that is used to access data in the storage pool.

Configuring virtualization system images for a computing cluster

Disclosed is an improved approach for updating address mappings when migrating a virtual entity in a virtualization environment that is installed onto a bare metal cloud infrastructure. The solution reacts to VM migration events rapidly and converges faster with minimal packet loss, as well as avoiding any interruption to existing connections between the VMs.

Fast ARP cache rewrites in a cloud-based virtualization environment

A method for forming a virtualization system image. A specification of an expressed end state of a virtualization system image is analyzed. The specification is decomposed into lower level specifications and the lower level specifications are decomposed into idempotent operations. The virtualization system image corresponding to the expressed end state is assembled by processing the idempotent operations. The expressed end state, decomposed lower level intents, and decomposed idempotent operations are codified into a decomposition hierarchy. The decomposition hierarchy is query-able such that, for a given intent, an idempotent operation is returned. An idempotent operation code library is query-able such that, for a given idempotent operation, a corresponding set of executable code is returned. An image builder executes the executable code. When all of the idempotent operations have been successfully executed, the virtualization system image is complete. A virtualization system image is deployed to computing nodes that constitute a computing cluster.

State-driven virtualization system imaging

In one embodiment, a computing device accesses an entity database storing information about entities in a virtualization environment. Each of the entities is associated with a single entity type and a shard. The shard further corresponds to the single entity type. The computing device determines an entity trail for the single shard, based on a modification history for one or more of the entities associated with the shard. The entity trail is divided into a plurality of time segments. The computing device receives an update from a client device indicating an update to an entity that is associated with the shard, and a client timestamp. The computing device selects a time segment corresponding to the client timestamp, and updates that portion of the entity trail with the client update.

In particular embodiments, a system for managing a virtualization environment includes host machines, each of the host machines including a hypervisor, user virtual machines (UVMs) and a virtual machine controller. The virtualization environment also includes virtual disks comprising a plurality of storage devices, and being accessible by the virtual machine controllers. The virtual machine controllers conduct I/O transactions with the virtual disks. The system stores an entity-relationship graph representing elements in the virtualization environment. Each of the elements is represented by an entity-type node in the entity-relationship graph, and relationships between the elements are represented by edges between the nodes.

A system and method include determining, by a telemetry control system of a telemetry system that an agent associated with the telemetry control system terminated during operation. The agent collects telemetry data from data sources associated with the telemetry system. The system and method also include determining that a number of times the agent has terminated is greater than a predetermined threshold, restarting the agent after a first predetermined delay in response to exceeding the predetermined threshold, and determining that the agent terminated again within a predetermined time period upon restarting. The system and method further include updating a configuration file of the agent in response to the termination within the predetermined time period and restarting the agent with the updated configuration file. The updating is based upon an agent termination record of the agent.

One embodiment is directed to a system that comprises a network device, including at least a first port, which is configured to analyze information within one or more messages received during a session initiated by another network device. The system is configured to perform operations including determining a total number of sessions for the first port of the network device and determining whether the total number of sessions for the first port exceeds a threshold value. If the total number of sessions for the first port exceeds the threshold value, an application associated with the first port is classified as a peer-to-peer application. Thereafter, a policy may be enforced based on this classification.
