Disclosed are methods and apparatuses for charging a hybrid battery pack, the method including determining, by a battery management system (BMS), a current split ratio for allocating charging current to an energy cell and a power cell in a hybrid battery pack, based on any one or any combination of a state of charge (SoC) level of the energy cell at an instance of initiation of charging, a SoC level of the power cell at the instance of the initiation of the charging, a wattage of an adapter for charging the hybrid battery pack, a capacity of the hybrid battery pack, and a charging time period, and charging, by the BMS, the hybrid battery pack by allocating the charging current to the energy cell and the power cell based on the current split ratio.

A method of estimating a maximum specific capacity of a composite electrode includes generating open circuit potential (OCP) crossover characteristics of the composite electrode comprising silicon and natural graphite, determining a composite electrode lithiation limit of the composite electrode based on a silicon lithiation limit of the silicon, predicting a composite electrode composition of the composite electrode based on the composite electrode lithiation limit, and estimating the maximum specific capacity of the composite electrode based on the composite electrode composition.

A method and system that enhances a service life of a battery is provided. The method includes values of a set of operational characteristics of a plurality of electrochemically active materials of at least one electrode of the battery. The set of operational characteristics include a voltage, a change in accumulated energy, a change in ohmic resistance, and a change in a rate of change in accumulated energy with respect to a rate of change in ohmic resistance. The values are compared with predefined values of the set of operational characteristics. A rate of depletion and a type of depletion of each of the plurality of electrochemically active materials are determined, and a range of the State of Charge, a range of the voltage, and a range of current to operate the battery for enhanced service life are determined.

Battery service life management method and system

A processor-implemented battery management method includes iteratively determining fractions of components in an electrode of a battery; calculating a composite state of charge (SoC) of the battery by applying the iteratively determined fractions of the components to a composite cathode model used to predict a state of the battery; and predicting the state of the battery based on the calculated composite SoC.
