A permanent magnet machine includes a machine housing having an inner surface that extends between a first housing end and a second housing end along a central longitudinal axis. The permanent magnet machine also includes a stator disposed within the machine housing, the stator having a stator core having an exterior surface extending between a first face and a second face along the central longitudinal axis, wherein the exterior surface defines a discontinuous region that is arranged to minimize points of contact between the inner surface and the exterior surface. The discontinuous region is at least partially defined by at least one of a first perturbation and a second perturbation that is circumferentially spaced apart from the first perturbation.

Permanent magnet machine

A permanent magnet machine includes a machine housing and a stator disposed within the machine housing. The machine housing has an inner surface that extends between a first housing end and a second housing end along a central longitudinal axis. The stator has a stator core having an exterior surface and an interior surface, each extending between a first face and a second face along the central longitudinal axis. The stator core defines a plurality of openings that extend from the first face towards the second face.

A permanent magnet machine includes a machine housing and a stator. The machine housing has an inner surface. The stator is disposed within the machine housing. The stator has a stator core having an exterior surface. At least one of the inner surface and the exterior surface defines a discontinuous region that is arranged to minimize points of contact between the inner surface and the exterior surface.

An interior permanent magnet motor assembly including a stator and a rotor is provided. The stator includes electromagnetic windings. The rotor is disposed concentrically with the stator about a rotor axis and the rotor has a plurality of rotor segments. The plurality of rotor segments may include a first rotor segment and a second rotor segment. The first rotor segment may have first pockets being arranged to receive at least a first magnet of a first magnet set according to a first rotor topology. The second rotor segment may be axially stacked relative to the first rotor segment about the rotor axis. The second rotor segment may be arranged to receive at least a second magnet of a second magnet set according to a second rotor topology having a configuration that is different than the first rotor topology.

A magnetic support structure of a torque sensor assembly includes a central hub surrounding an upper shaft. Also included is a plurality of spoke segments extending radially outwardly from the central hub, each of the spoke segments comprising a pair of magnet supports. Technical solutions are described for generating an output torque from a multi-winding PMDC motor. An example method includes generating, by a current controller, a first voltage command for a first winding set from a plurality of winding sets of the PMDC motor, the first winding set generates a first current in response to the first voltage command. The method further includes generating, by the current controller, a second voltage command for the second winding set from the winding sets of the PMDC motor, the second winding set generates a second current in response to the second voltage command. The method further includes generating, by the PMDC motor, the output torque based on the first current and the second current.

Fault tolerant permanent magnet DC motor drives

A brushless motor includes a stator disposed along an axis and a rotor disposed radially inward from the stator. The rotor includes a core, a plurality of first magnets and a plurality of second magnets configured to have opposite poles relative to the plurality of first magnets. The plurality of first and second magnets may each have a substantially rectangular cross-section and are in contact with a substantially flat surface carried by the core that faces radially outward.

A torque sensing system having a torque sensor, and a steering system, are provided. The torque sensor includes a first rotor having apertures extending therethrough and bar magnets disposed in the apertures. The torque sensor further includes a second rotor defining an interior region with the first rotor being disposed in the interior region. The second rotor has tooth members extending toward the first rotor. The torque sensor further includes first and second Hall effect sensors disposed in an open region of the second rotor proximate to the first rotor. The first and second Hall effect sensors generate first and second signals, respectively, indicative of an amount of torque applied between the first rotor and the second rotor.

An apparatus for measuring relative displacement between a first shaft and a second shaft includes first and second rotor assemblies. The first rotor assembly is coupled to the first shaft and is centered on an axis. The second rotor assembly is coupled to the second shaft. The second rotor assembly has first and second stator plates. Each of the first and second stator plates includes an upper surface and a lower surface. The first and second stator plates include a plurality of teeth extending in a direction radial of the axis. The apparatus further includes at least one magnet having a magnetic field and disposed on the first rotor assembly. The apparatus includes a flux collector arrangement having first and second collectors positioned adjacent the first and second stator plates, respectively, forming a gap. A sensing device disposed within the gap senses a magnetic flux of the magnetic field.
