Embodiment provided herein are directed to microneedle patches for agent application on a mammal skin. The microneedle patch may comprise a patch scaffold having a surface, and a plurality of microneedles disposed on the surface. Each of the microneedles may be capable of piercing the skin 50 &#x3bc;m to 1000 &#x3bc;m deep, and comprises a composite material comprising polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and one or more additional copolymers selected from the group consisting of maltose, leucine, and dileucine.

Improved electrochemical impedance spectroscopy assays are provided by electrodepositing metallic nanoparticles onto the working electrode for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The metallic nanoparticles provide improved assay sensitivity. Electrodeposition of the metallic nanoparticles firmly affixes them to the working electrode, thereby making it easier to clean the working electrode from one assay to the next assay without undesirably removing the metallic nanoparticles.
