A conformance control method includes identifying a target location of a wellbore formed from a terranean surface to two subterranean formations that include a high permeability formation having a first permeability and a low permeability formation having a second permeability that is equal or less than one-third of the first permeability. The method includes forming a first plurality of tunnels in the high permeability formation from the wellbore; injecting, into the high permeability formation and the low permeability formation, a chemical fluid from the wellbore through the first plurality of tunnels; expanding a sweep area of the injected chemical fluid by injecting the chemical fluid into the high permeability formation through the first plurality of tunnels; forming a second plurality of tunnels in the low permeability formation from the wellbore; and increasing a contact area of an injection fluid in the low permeability formation with the second plurality of tunnels.

Systems and methods for conformance control of a wellbore

A system includes production tubing extending through at least one abandoned well, where an annulus is formed between the tubing and a wellbore wall of the abandoned well, at least one source of water feed connected to an opening to the annulus, at least one pump connected between the source of water feed and the annulus, and a humidification-dehumidification unit with at least one humidification chamber fluidly connected to the production tubing. The metal pressure chamber includes: a base that retains the liquid sample; a removable lid that seals against the base to enclose the liquid sample in the metal pressure chamber; and a window in the removable lid that exposes the liquid sample to an exterior of the metal pressure chamber.

A method may include providing a humidification-dehumidification unit proximate one or more abandoned wells, circulating a water feed through the one or more abandoned wells, using geothermal heat in the one or more abandoned wells to heat the water feed, directing the heated water feed to the humidification-dehumidification unit, and treating the heated water feed in the humidification-dehumidification unit to provide purified water.

Method for enhancing oil recovery in a hydrocarbon-containing carbonate reservoir including: injecting a slug of an oil recovery solution into the carbonate reservoir such that the wettability of a rock surface of the hydrocarbon-containing reservoir is altered toward more water-wet; and injecting a slug of a displacing fluid into the hydrocarbon-containing carbonate reservoir formation after injecting the slug of the oil recovery solution. The oil recovery solution comprising: a manganese-bearing aqueous solution having manganese ions and one or more major ions. The aqueous saline solution having a concentration of manganese ions between 100 and 1,000 ppm TDS and a concentration of major ions that is equivalent to the concentration of major ions in seawater as it is found in nature. The one or more major ions can include: sodium ion, magnesium ion, calcium ion, chlorine ion, sulfate ion, bicarbonate ion, and combinations of the same.

Manganese-assisted waterflooding processes for enhanced oil recovery in carbonate formations

A method for fabricating calcite channels in a nanofluidic device is described. A photoresist layer is coated onto a top surface of a silicon nitride (SiN) substrate. After coating the photoresist layer, the photoresist layer is scanned with an electron beam in a predefined pattern. The scanned photoresist is developed to expose portions of the top surface of the SiN substrate in the predefined pattern. Calcite is deposited in the predefined pattern using atomic layer deposition (ALD) using a calcite precursor gas. Using a solvent, a remaining portion of the photoresist layer is removed to expose the deposited calcite in the predefined pattern and on the top surface of the SiN substrate, where a width of the deposited calcite is in range from 50 to 100 nanometers (nm).

Fabricating calcite nanofluidic channels

Systems and methods for supplying water to a hydrocarbon-containing formation may include generating artificial rain in the proximity of the formation and collecting the artificial rain in one or more collectors. Following collection, the artificial rain may be transferred from the one or more collectors to an underground water reservoir. The artificial rain may then be combined with an aqueous fluid to give a wellbore fluid, which may then be transferred or injected into the wellbore.

Artificial rain to support water flooding in remote oil fields

A method for fabricating calcite channels in a nanofluidic device is described. A porous membrane is attached to a substrate. Calcite is deposited in porous openings in the porous membrane attached to the substrate. A width of openings in the deposited calcite is in a range from 50 to 100 nanometers (nm). The porous membrane is etched to remove the porous membrane from the substrate to form a fabricated calcite channel structure. Each channel has a width in the range from 50 to 100 nm.
